School Interview – Mr.

Sanjay Chawan
1. Does the school have a policy for waste management?
a. If so, what is this policy?
b. If not, why not?

Yes, the school does have a policy regarding waste management. The government guidelines are
strictly followed by the school. The school segregates waste into 3 types: Dry, Wet, and solid
waste.

2. Is there a school policy on the use of paper?

a. Has ICT-technology contributed to the reduction of the use of paper at school?

The school does not sell used paper to the wastepaper dealers, but instead gives the wastepaper
to the recyclers, who come to the school regularly for collecting the paper. The school has also
stopped sending paper circulars to inform parents of activities but instead now sends the parents
emails.

3. Are there any methods to recycle waste at school/separate garbage now?

The recycling of waste generated by school is done more efficiently as more space is available
when it is outsourced. Also, in school, items must strictly be put into their designated bins.

4. What are the school regulations about rubbish?

a. What happens if a student throws something on the floor?

Students are discouraged from littering. They are encouraged to throw waste in the dustbins. If
waste is found in the dustbin, it is picked up and given to the recyclers. During the pandemic the
wet waste reduced as only tea was made for the teachers attending school from the premises.

5. What, in your opinion, does the school do well in terms of waste management?

The school regularly meets the government representatives to speak about waste management.
The school is also planning on designating an area where dedicated waste management can take
place. The government fines institutions where waste is not managed properly, and the school is
very good at segregating the waste.

6. What, in your opinion, could the school improve in terms of waste management?

Although guidelines have been enforced, some students do not dispose of the garbage properly.
Also, the dedicated waste management area can be increased. The school could also improve by
increasing awareness among students and staff.
