PANDEMIC
Research Problem The aim of the study is to determine those factors affecting students
learning engagement in TLE in junior high schools of Tanza during
the covid-19 pandemic: Specifically, the study assess to answer the
following questions:
1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of
Age, Gender, and Family background?
2. What e-learning sites that the learners in TLE in junior high
schools of Tanza utilized?
3. What are the factors affecting students’ learning engagement in
TLE in using e-learning sites during the covid-19 pandemic in
terms of Affordability, Preparedness, Software, Hardware and
Network signal?
4. What solutions can be explore based on the results of the
research?

"Given the challenges of distance education in the twenty-first century, it is

critical for distance educators to reconsider how well they meet the needs of their
students and institutions, as well as to comprehend the factors that may facilitate or
hinder users' acceptance of and engagement with distance learning environments." As
a result, learners are more inclined to use a system for learning objectives if they
perceive it as useful or practical." (Cigdem & Ozturk, 2016).

“Almaiah, Al-Khasawneh, & Althunibat, 2020 found various hurdles in adopting

the e-learning system in their existing literature review. These difficulties can be divided

into four categories: (1) technological difficulties, (2) individual difficulties, (3) cultural
difficulties, and (4) course difficulties. They've also discovered that these problems
range greatly from one country to the next, owing to differences in culture, background,
and preparation. Despite these attempts, none of this research has investigated the
actual difficulties that users confront when using an e-learning system. As a result,
empirical research is necessary to identify the key problems that face e-learning
system utilization during the COVID-19 pandemic, to assist university decision-makers
in overcoming the issue of low e-learning system usage”.
Research Design
This research will apply the quantitative approach of study to
determine the factors affecting students’ learning engagement in TLE
in junior high schools in the municipality of Tanza. Descriptive
research seeks to describe the status of an identified variable. These
research projects are designed to provide systematic information
about a phenomenon. The researcher does not usually begin with a
hypothesis but is likely to develop one after collecting data. The
analysis and synthesis of the data provide the test of the hypothesis.
Systematic collection of information requires careful selection of the
units studied and careful measurement of each variable.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND SYNTHESIS

“Because of the COVID-19 pandemic we are now in a state of emergency and

must react with different and available ways of learning such as e-learning systems

and mobile learning applications” (Almaiah, Al-Khasawneh, & Althunibat, 2020). The

present catastrophic is reviving the need to explore online teaching and learning

opportunities. As a result of the pandemic's hard position, there is a growing demand

to explore those issues through our students' distant learning experiences.

“UNESCO (2020), university and school closures have a number of negative

implications for pupils, including disrupted learning, which deprives students and

youth of possibilities for growth and development”. However, because industrialized

countries have significant financial capability, converting traditional learning to digital

learning is easy. But for some developing countries like the Philippines traditional

education system still sought after by the majority due to varied factors such as,

government's political will, infrastructure readiness, and users' technological

expertise.

“Learners faced considerable problems in online learning, such as technical

issues, according to Dr. Mohammad Mahyoob, 2020. Some students had issues with

internet connectivity, accessing lessons, and downloading course materials.

Learners' mobile phones were unable to access online tests. Learners were unable

to successfully communicate with teachers during virtual sessions due to linguistic

communication problems. It is suggested that more study be conducted to better

understand instructors' perspectives and experiences with online teaching during the

pandemic”.

“A number of new areas for future research was open up from the study of

Koob C, Schro¨pfer K, Coenen M, Kus S, Schmidt N (2021). According to them

future studies should look at confirmatory and exploratory factors influencing study

engagement during the COVID-19 epidemic, such as personal resources and

demands.” This will focus on a precise selection of pandemic-related study

resources, personal resources, and needs.

“In the existing literature review of Almaiah, Al-Khasawneh, & Althunibat,

2020 they had found four hurdles in adopting the e-learning system.” These

difficulties are categorized into: (1) technological difficulties, (2) individual difficulties,

(3) cultural difficulties, and (4) course difficulties. They've also discovered that these

educational institution decision-makers in overcoming the issue of low e-learning

system usage”.

"The increased adoption of distance learning solutions by TVET programs has

not facilitated the acquisition of practical skills and organization of work-based

learning, which is crucial for resolving some of the problems brought on by the

pandemic," according to the International Labour Organization (ILO), 2021. Adapting

to change in the economic world, the labor market, ensuring equality of opportunity,

and encouraging social cohesion are all critical. Other difficulties offered by global

drivers of change, such as climate change, globalization, and demographic shifts,

necessitate skill development. The International Labour Organization (ILO)

demonstrates quick response measures and policy options that will enable countries

to rebuild better – fairer, stronger, and more resilient.”

SYNTHESIS

This pandemic touched the mind's inner world, the physical body's world, and

the world outside that we call nature. As a teacher, I witnessed and experienced the

significant detrimental impact that these current rising concerns and problems have

on the teaching and learning system. I witnessed students' challenges with their

studies and their desire for direct support from their respective teachers. The same

difficulties had a bad impact on our esteemed conventional teachers, as well. Most of

them are forced to retire early.

On the other hand, previous research on the many elements affecting the

education system has found that the epidemic has had a significant influence.

Despite this, the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 032, s. 2020, has

amended the policy in support of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-

LCP), a set of educational interventions that will address the basic education

problems posed by COVID-19, which forces every school to operate in an

unprepared environment.

Regardless of the diverse studies that were already been conducted before

this research, the study will assess if the existing learning management system like

the use of social media platform or google classroom and many other e-learning

management sites help our students learned? It is the desire of the researcher to

explore those factors affecting students’ learning engagement in TLE in the junior

high school of Tanza. Factors that will affect the learning engagement also disrupt

the teaching and learning process then students will neglect their studies.

These factors that affect our learners' focus in their lesson that need to be

arrest the soonest possible such as affecting Filipino students’ learning engagement

in TLE in secondary high school of Tanza. These include the learners’ affordability of

the existing e-learning system, their preparedness in terms of utilization of various e-

learning sites, software and hardware issues on their gadgets and the capability of

network signal during the students’ online school activities. Does the existing

teaching-learning management system introduced by DepEd Educational

Technology Unit which utilized multiple e-learning platforms for both digital and

modular learning delivers the desired learning to the students?
