KME and copper

Our modern world would be impossible without copper: electricity,

air conditioning, refrigeration, traffic and digital media technology
have become part of our daily lives and owe much of their widespread
success to the consistent use of the raw material copper. Copper has
become indispensable in technological development, and its importance
as a state-of-the-art raw material is unchallenged.

KME Germany GmbH & Co. KG with its production sites in Osnabrück
and Menden manufactures Standard Products for the building and rolled
industry and also in Osnabrück Special Products for industrial applications.
The precise definition of mechanical properties such as high electrical con-
ductivity
2 or narrow production tolerances are essential for industrial use.

Rolled Products
for industrial applications

At KME, copper and copper-alloy rolled material is tailor-made in quantity

to customer specifications. In addition to strips, sheets, plates and blanks
for industrial use, KME Germany GmbH & Co. KG in Osnabrück also
manufactures special strips needed for the production of cables and
transformers. Many industrial sectors use KME's rolled products, which
include the electric and electronics industries, the automotive and
semiconductor industry, the mechanical engineering industry and
for metal working.

KME rolled products comply fully with the main international standards
(EN, DIN, ASTM, BS, AFNOR etc.)

Brass Rolled Products

Brass is probably the most well-known of all copper alloys. Varying the composition
of copper and zinc creates different types of material which are specifically geared
to meeting particular demands. At KME, brass products are made in a wide variety
of alloys, manufactured to EN 1652 and EN 1654, to tighter tolerances than those
stated in the EN standards.

KME Germany GmbH & Co. KG — Copper and Copper Alloy Products 7

Bronze Strips

KME produces high-quality alloyed bronze strips according to EN 1652

and EN 1654 and with much narrower tolerances those specified in the
EN standard.

Cable Strips
Extremely high-quality copper strips for any type of communications
(coaxial, HF submarine cable), heavy-duty and special cable.

Cable strips with specific demands on the welding parameters

stand out for the following features:
• No periodic fluctuations in thickness
• Technically fat-free, smooth surface
• High dimensional stability
• High electrical conductivity
• Concentrated materials composition

Copper strips with no specific demands on welding parameters

stand out for the following features:
• High electrical conductivity
• Low-fat, smooth surface
• Narrow size tolerances

Delivery Forms
In addition, KME supplies special strips such as one- or two-sided
copolymer coated strips and/or tailor-made perforated strips
which are used in radiating cables, etc.

Transformer Strips

KME produces soft copper strips with clean, smooth surfaces and
deburred edges for transformer windings. Their characteristic feature
is the carefully deburred edges, making them ideal for constructing
electric windings with large conductor cross-sections. They are mainly
used to equip distribution transformers and special transformers for
welding engineering, making rectifiers and electrotechnical appliances.

Discs
Stamped and cut copper discs in low-earing quality for
deep-drawing purposes.

The KME copper discs complying with EN 1652 and EN 1653

are suitable for the production of boilers, electrical household
appliances and all kinds of metal-objects requiring a high-quality
surface and a good deep-drawing quality. The discs can be
made from strips or plates. Discs made from strip are usually
annealed (R220). On request however, the physical state of
semi-hard (R240) or hard (R290) is also available.
