Applying Magnetic Force

You will need:

• a toy on wheels, such as a train, with a magnet on each end;

• magnets of different strength;

• a ruler.

What to do:

1. Put the toy next to the ruler, with the start of the toy at 0cm and the rest of the ruler
facing away from the toy.

2. One at a time, slowly bring each magnet close to the toy. Measure in cm how far away
the magnet is from the toy when the toy moves towards the magnets.

Prediciton:
I think the stronger magnet will

I think the weaker magnet will

Applying Magnetic Force
Plan an investigation to measure how far away different magnets can be before they apply
magnetic forces using the following equipment:

• a toy on wheels, such as a train, with a magnet on each end;

• magnets of different strength;

• ruler.

Write a method, prediction and choose a way to record your results.
