1. Green’s Theorem relates a line integral to a double integral over some region while
Stoke’s Theorem relates a line integral to a surface integral. Scientist has
developed a tool called planimeter to measure the area of closed regions in the
plane. You as scientist has been assigned for a task to measure the area and
surface area by using these theorems.

a. Force field of a moving particle is 𝑭(𝑥, 𝑦) = 𝐏(𝑥, 𝑦)𝑖̅ + 𝐐(𝑥, 𝑦)𝑗̅. Particle A
moves in Pentagon shape and particle B moves in Triangle shape. Identify
the 𝐏(𝑥, 𝑦) and 𝐐(𝑥, 𝑦) such that the force field 𝑭(𝑥, 𝑦) is conservative. Draw
the regions bounded by the moving particles with vertices. Calculate the area
and the work done for these moving particles. Explain the effect of positive and
negative rotations.

b. Construct 𝐏(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧), 𝐐(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧), 𝐑(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) such that the flux by the force field
𝐅(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) = 𝐏(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧)𝑖̅ + 𝐐(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧)𝑗̅ + 𝐑(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧)𝑘̅ across the surfaces by the
following:

i. Paraboloid, and above 𝑥𝑦-plane is 5𝜋.

ii. Cylinder, and 𝑥𝑦-plane is 10 𝜋.
iii. Cylinder lies inside the sphere and above 𝑥𝑦-plane is 15 𝜋.

Evaluate the work done by the moving particles along the intersection for
surfaces Q1b(i), Q1b(ii) and Q1b(iii). Explain the effect of positive and
negative rotations.

2. Suppose that you are climbing the Gua Singa, with the shape given by equation
𝐴𝑧 = 𝐵𝑥 𝑚 + 𝐶𝑦 𝑛 − 𝐷𝑥 − 𝐸𝑦 + 14 where 𝑥, 𝑦, and 𝑧 are measured in meter. If you
are standing at location (10, 30, 40), by performing second derivatives test, identify
𝐴, 𝐵, 𝐶, 𝐷, 𝐸, 𝑚 and 𝑛 such that (10, 30, 40) is
i. local max.
ii. local min.
iii. saddle points.

3. You are assigned to monitor the operation of water tank for the ABC company during
your internship placement. It is assumed that the water discharged from the tank
should follow the discharge model

𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑒 𝑥−1 − √(𝐴 + 𝐵),

where 𝑥 is the pressure applied in Pascal (Pa) and 𝑓(𝑥) is the amount of water
discharged in 𝑚3 from the tank per-hour. The tank will need to undergo maintenance
if the water discharge from the tank deviates at the true percent relative error of 5%
from the discharge model. (The constants 𝐴 and 𝐵 are determined by the last two
digits of your student’s ID. For example: If your student’s ID is 123456. 𝐴 = 6 and
𝐵 = 5. However, if your last two digits are 00 or 01 or 10, use 𝐴 = 2 and 𝐵 = 3.)

Fill in TABLE Q3 with reasonable reading from your monitoring job, 7 < 𝑓(𝑥) < 27.

TABLE Q3

𝑥 (Pa) 3.5 3.7 3.9 4.1 4.3

𝑓(𝑥) (𝑚3 /ℎ)

In the fulfillment of your internship completion, you are required to provide the
performance report of the water tank, to suggest if maintenance is necessary. Your
report should contain the error analysis of the machine performance against the
discharge model. To validate reliabilities, your report must use all the readings from
TABLE Q3 in each of your analysis, with 5 decimal places, and up to five iterations
when necessary. The report should include the following.

i. Estimation of water discharged when pressure of 3.8 Pa is used.

ii. Rate of production at the pressure of 3.9 Pa.
iii. The suggested pressure if the water discharged is 15 𝑚3 /ℎ.
iv. Discussion of your analysis and suggestion if the maintenance is necessary.
