 FROM GRAMMAR TO WRITING
1. UNIT 2: PAST TIME
 Think about an experience you’ve had that turned out
differently from what you expected. Write a few
sentences on each of the following topics: What you
thought would happen? What actually happened? What
you’ve learned? (Five-paragraph).
 WRITING 1 UNIT 2
I’ve been extraordinarily happy with my boyfriend the whole time, we had a such
opposing desires and personalities that mixed with the pride of youth and inexperience,
however, in the general rhythm of life, I´ve never thought that we would end up
together.
I still remember when we first met at university and from the first moment, I felt a
special connection because he looked mysterious and kind and I decided to make plans
to see him again. We´ve gone out 3 or 4 times and in all our dates, he had some
uncomfortable attitudes, for example, he didn’t notice the immense affection that I had
for him, and he only thought about himself. I thought he didn’t like me, I knew
something was up because he had been acting so tense around me, then I decided to get
away from him as quickly as possible because I knew that it would be wrong to be
intimate with him and that’s why we stopped talking for a year and I haven’t heard from
him.
Two years later, my best friend Mariana invited me to her birthday party and of course I
had to go because I was her best friend, but when she said something to me that changed
everything, I didn’t know that Mariana and Gabriel were childhood friends and this
meant that Gabriel was going to be at the party. I’d been discouraged, so I thought” fine,
I don’t care”, I wouldn’t let it get me down, besides, I had already asked my mom for
permission, and at the point I knew there was not turning back after that.
When the hour arrived, I asked my dad for taking me to the party and then I would call
him when the party has ended but he told me to take a taxi, all was okay. That night I
was taking a taxi and at the same time I was so much praying that Gabriel wouldn’t
come. When I got there, he was there, I wanted to go home, but I didn’t know how to
tell my best friend “I’m sorry, but I have to go home” but in the end, I stayed longer
than I expected, the truth is, I had a great time and Gabriel wanted to talk to me again
because he said he was feeling bad about what happened, in other words, he wanted to
fix things. For some reason he was too stoned to talk, everywhere I went, he would talk
to me and it made me laugh, and that’s when I decided to stay around for 5 more
minutes to see what happened next.
And the next day, I received a message from him, he wanted to date me, he literally
begged me to go out and I agreed to go out with him, that was the everlasting moment
he had been waiting for. He made a CD of all my favorite songs to be played during our
date, also there were things he wanted to pay for, in fact, I was surprised by his attitude
because when we went out, he used to be petty but now he`s definitely a different
person. He`s changed a lot and I’m very happy about that and I’ve learned that, at some
point, each and every man figures out that there’s avoid deep down inside in their soul
and they decide to change their behavior and heal the relationship.
