CHAIN MANAGEMENT
MANUFACTURING
SYSTEM
A collection of integrated equipments and human
resources whose function is to perform one or
more processing/and or assembly operations on a
raw material, part, or set of parts.
COMPONENTS OF A MANUFACTURING
SYSTEM
A manufacturing system consists of several components. In a
given system, these components usually include:

Production Material Handling Computer Human Workers

Machines and Tools System systems
PRODUCTION
MACHINES
MANUALLY OPERATED
MACHINES

SEMI-AUTOMATED
MACHINES

FULLY AUTOMATED
MACHINES
MANUALLY OPERATED MACHINE

Manually operated machines are directed or

supervised by a human worker.
SEMI-AUTOMATED MACHINE

A semi-automated machine performs a portion

of the work cycle under some form of program
control, and a human worker tends to the
machine for the remainder of the cycle, by
loading and unloading it or performing some
other task each cycle.
FULLY-AUTOMATED MACHINE

The fully-automated machine operates for

extended periods (longer than one work cycle)
without worker attention (periodic tending
may be needed).
MATERIAL HANDLING
SYSTEM
In most processing and assembly operations
are performed on discrete parts and products.
the following ancillary functions must be
provided:

(1) loading and unloading work units

(2) positioning the work units at each station.
(3) transporting work units between stations.
(4) a temporary storage of work units
COMPUTER CONTROL
SYSTEM
This system performs the following
functions:
1. Providing instructions to the operators.
2. Download part program for the
computer-controlled machine.
3. Failure Diagnosis.
4. Monitoring.
5. Operational management
6. Production scheduling
HUMAN WORKERS

Operator add value to the product through

its direct physical labor by performing
operations in work unit or by operating/
controlling the production machines.

CONCEPT OF PRODUCTION

PRODUCTION
Defined as "the step-by-step conversion of
one form of material into another form
through a chemical or mechanical process
to create or enhance the utility of the
product to the user.
THE PRODUCTION SYSTEM HAS THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS:
