CRITERIA FOR REGISTRATION AS A CARDIOLOGIST

Any doctor can apply to be registered as a Cardiologist if he/she fulfils ALL the following:

1. Fully Registered with the Malaysian Medical Council with current Annual Practicing
Certificate (APC)

2. A Recognized Postgraduate Qualification in Internal Medicine:

AND

3. Completed subspecialty training in Cardiology in recognized training centres:

3.1. Minimum duration of training

3.1.1. A minimum of 3 years basic cardiology training after the postgraduate qualification with
satisfactory completion of all components of the approved training, and
3.1.2. Successfully completed the minimum numbers of procedures (non invasive and
invasive) required for competency and proficiency.

3.1.3. Has had at least 1 year of supervised working experience as a junior consultant after
completion of required training

3.2. Evidence of satisfactory training such as:


3.2.1. Log of cases seen and procedures performed (as Appendix)
3.2.2. Supervisors’ reports
3.2.3. Has met the minimum requirements for research and publication (see Appendix)
3.2.4. Letter/certificate of satisfactory completion of training

4. APPLICANTS FROM OVERSEAS


Applicants with training and experience overseas must be substantiated by documents
relating to qualification, training and experience. The Specialty Subcommittee
for Cardiology may consider such application on a case to case basis and reserves
the right to stipulate any conditions which may include additional training or
experience.

Professional Appraisal for NSR in Cardiology

1. Evaluation on 2 components of Publication and Research.


2. Publication 100 marks and Research 100 marks
3. Candidates have to secure an average of 100 marks for the 2 components and obtain a minimum of 40
marks for each component
