OFM – Petrel Integration – Living Model Workflow

OFM, Petrel, Integration

OFM Petrel Connector update the static and reservoir

simulation model with latest field activities. This is the
need of the hour as improvement in quality of
modeling, history match will improve the quality
decision making in Field Development Planning. As a
part of this Dynamic Data Model Workflow was initiated
to access, integrate the dynamic data under
knowledge sharing environment resulting in time and
effort minimization
Challenge:
Difficulties in identification of source and format of data
leading to immense time and effort for gathering and
utilizing in sub surface studies i.e. Reservoir Simulation
How

Study.
Results:
Several automated routines complete the daily
workflow processes of reservoir engineers, as well as
research scientists. These tools result increase user
productivity, reduce time and effort, optimize
operational activities, and minimize human errors. The
model can be updated on real time.
Solutions being dynamic and fully automated are
capable of providing true performance monitoring and
analyzing tool with reliable production and injection
data validation.
Through these integrated dynamic tools, engineers can
efficiently manage oil fields throughout the E&P
lifecycle, make better decisions through running
simulations based on up-to-date production data,
manage more wells in less time, and detect production
problems early in the well’s life.

OFM Type Well Module

TYPE WELL, FIELD DEVELOPMENT, DRILLED

Type Wells is an analysis method which can be

performed in OFM, it allows average performance
of existing wells or an overview of production of
new wells to be drilled. It is useful for field
development plans.
In OFM type well workflow can be performed in
few steps:

▪ Click “Analysis”, then select “Type Well”

▪ In the “Edit” pane, select the x-axis and y-
axis. In this case, Daily Oil Rate (“Split By”
How

Completions) and “Elapsed Months”,

normalized using “Peak Production”.
▪ Select the group of wells to be included in the
Type Curve generation (“Type Well Entities”)
from the Navigation Pane.
▪ Option: De-select ‘outlier’ wells from the
group (uncheck wells from the list in the
bottom right hand corner).
▪ Select and Save the Type Wells. In this
case, the P10, P50 and P90 curves.

Use Type Wells as a “Schedule” in Forecasting. Click “Save”,

For example, forecast production considering and the Type

Automated Workflow for Real-Time

Management in a Large Carbonate Field
ALNakhli, Maithem M., Saudi Aramco, AlMousa, Talal S., Saudi Aramco, Al-Nuaim, Ahmad, Saudi Aramco,
Dallag, Mohammed, Schlumberger

Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the implementation of an automated workflow designed

to support the management of a reservoir, by integrating real-time production data with
other data elements. The workflow and techniques used require specialized engineering
processes to fully understand the reservoir behavior and associated parameters to identify
wells with anomalous behavior1.

Conclusion
This paper presented several automated tools that supported the daily workflow process of
a reservoir engineer. The paper also identified automated tools connected to the real-time
data loaded from the field to increase the end user productivity, reduce the time and effort,
enhance the production, and improve cost avoidance. Capitalizing on digital tools will
always minimize human errors and improve the efficiency of field management practices.
Through these integrated dynamic tools, engineers can give a better decision and manage
the field with more wells in less time, and better visualization to detect early problems.
