Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Policy # 1.0
Distribution: Corporate Office
Last Revised: February 2, 2005

Purpose

Barrick Gold Corporation is committed to providing a safe work environment for our
employees. As part of this commitment, we require all employees, including those from
the corporate office, to wear specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when in
potentially hazardous environments. Where all necessary PPE is not provided directly by
the Company employees are expected to purchase the necessary equipment and will be
reimbursed by Barrick.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees based at the Barrick head office in Toronto, who in
the performance of their jobs are required to travel to and work in conditions that
demand the use of PPE consistent with Barrick Gold Corporation standards.

Guidelines

Operating sites typically provide rubber steel-toed boots, safety glasses, ear protection,
dust masks, gloves and hard hats for use by visiting employees. At some sites, cold
weather gear is also provided.

An inventory of PPE, including safety glasses, ear protection, dust masks, gloves and
hard hats is also maintained at the corporate office for use by traveling employees.

Items that are the responsibility of employees to purchase as required are leather steel-
toed boots and prescription safety glasses (with side shields) where wear-over glasses
are not adequate.

Occasionally employees may need to acquire other special items such as harsh weather
clothing. Safety and Health representatives will provide direction on what specific PPE is
appropriate to the tasks being undertaken.

Administration

All purchased PPE must be Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved. To be

eligible for reimbursement, all prescription safety glasses must have permanent side
shields.

Employees are reimbursed for any purchases through the normal expense reporting
process by providing the appropriate receipts.
