1. Objective
To provide a clear and simply worded procedure to be understood by most
employees on selection, issue, use and maintenance of personal protective
equipment.
2. Scope
This procedure is applicable to Arjas Modern Steel (P) Ltd; Mandi Gobindgarh
3. Legal Requirement
 Section 7A, Section 35 of Factories Act, 1948
 Rule 63, Rule 67D, Rule 67E, Rule 67K(g) Schedule – XVI (3), of Punjab Factories
Rules, 1952
 Rule 45, 46 & 54 of the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulations of
Employment and Conditions of Service) Act 1996, and Central Rules 1998.
4. Procedure
4.1 General Guidelines

Application of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shall be:

 Head Protection - All personnel at work front shall wear AMSPL-approved and ISI
marked safety helmets all the time. All personnel wearing helmet should have chin strip
fixed all the time during their work. The helmets’ front portion should have the name of
the user.

 Hearing Protection - Suitable hearing protection shall be provided to all personnel


exposed to noise levels at or above 85dB (A) 8 hours Leq. The protection may be
earmuffs or earplugs.

 Respiratory Protection – Suitable respirators/breathing apparatus shall be provided to all


persons working in dusty areas, or those who may encounter respirable dangerous
substance or work in oxygen deficient environment. This will be decided as per risk
assessment.

 Footwear – All personnel at work front shall wear AMSPL-approved and ISI marked
safety shoes or gumboots with steel toe all the time.

 Gloves – All concerned personnel will be provided with suitable protective gloves, to
prevent injury to hands while handling sharp/ hazardous objects.

 Safety Goggles – Where required, appropriate ISI marked safety goggles shall be used.

4.2 Issue of PPE


 All Company employees shall be issued PPE by the Company.
 All PPE shall be issued after approval of HOD.

4.3 Use of PPE


 Use of PPE should be identified in the risk assessment.
 Every employee issued with PPE is responsible for its use and to maintain it to
ensure that it remains fit for its intended use.
 Contractor Labors should also abide by the company’s agreement on usage of PPEs.

7.0 GUIDANCE NOTES FOR STORAGE OF PPE
