I am an independent study student, so the time of my class
would usually clash with the schedule of my work. I work in retail, and my 11 am to 5 pm schedule would not let me go to class in the right time. I would say that the class is not really independent study friendly. I found the modules or syllabus incomplete and the quizzes were hard to answer without the right materials. I struggled for a whole semester because I can’t get on Facebook every now and then because I don’t usually use the application very often, so when the professor sends us a file, I don’t usually see it often. The first day of class, I was rather distracted. I knew that the information being said was important for this course, but I was in the middle of my work and I was struggling with the internet connection so I didn’t get to listen with all the requirements needed for the course. Then days after that, I was informed that our professor would be inactive because they have tested positive for the covid-19. For two weeks, we have been taking a substitution class with another professor, which I found really helpful because of the recorded meetings on Microsoft teams. The lessons were easily to follow because of the past lessons that we had during our high school years. I found the whole course to be somewhat difficult, because of the lack of syllabus and modules on Canvas. The quizzes were a bit difficult to answer too because I was answering it during my work time and it was on the assignment tab and not on the quiz’s tabs, which I found really difficult to manage. I failed to submit 2 of the quizzes because I failed to submit it on time, and I have underestimated the time limit on the said quizzes. I guess it is my fault for not following through the lessons, and I’m at risk of repeating the course next semester. I just hope that the activities that I have submitted were enough to give off a passing grade. It has been a struggle to be a student especially during the pandemic, the time for work and the time for school are often not enough to be able to get through the day. The activities that were sent out were rather easier to answer because the submission time was not pressurized and it was easier to answer because most of it was subjective but also objective forward. I never thought of working in pairs, I was always uncomfortable with the thought of being judged by an answer that I might say wrong, but my partner was really friendly and kind towards working in an activity about the fortunate past, present and future Philippine society. She was the one who drew our illustration and we talked about how it goes, and how we see the Philippines in our perspectives.
