Mini-project 1
(Objective : Carry out supply chain benchmarking study)

(a) Compare at least three public limited firms from any industry (for example, in paints
industry, Asian Paints, Berger Paints, and Shalimar Paints) of your choice, study
their annual reports for the last 5 years, and compute key performance indicators
(KPI) of supply chain performance performances and report your significant
observations from the study.

(b) Do you see any significant change in the performance of these companies during this
5-year period? If so, collect additional data and list down possible reasons for such
change(s).

(c) According to your group, who is practicing supply chain management better? Can
you support your claim with additional facts and figures?

Please include Xerox copies of the data source in your report.

Data source: Company annual reports, Prowess e-database, websites, interviews with
company personnel

Mini-project 2
(Objective: Carry out a field study on application of SCM concepts)

Select a medium or large size manufacturing or service sector entity (manufacturing

enterprise, supermarket, hospitals, hotels etc.) firm of your choice. You can visit the firm or

collect secondary data on the entity and then prepare and present a detailed report in one of
the following three areas:

a. Sourcing practices in the firm

b. Distribution or Logistics practice in the firm

c. Managing risks in the supply chain that includes new risk of COVID

Your report should clearly demonstrate the application of SCM concepts learnt in the class.
In other words, if you are studying sourcing, your report should indicate its current sourcing
strategy for different components (primarily critical items and non-critical items) it sources
from suppliers. As far as possible, try to incorporate firm level data in your report. What
are the strengths and weaknesses of the strategy and suggest a better strategy with proper
reasonings? What are the new sourcing concepts being practiced by other leading industrial
firms, which the entity under study, can emulate? How do they evaluate their sourcing
strategy performance?

Mini-Project 3
Study a warehouse of a reputed logistics firm and present a detailed description of
warehouse practices (storing of material, handling of material, order picking and order
delivery, technology used etc.). The report should highlight the various concepts on logistics
management that are being used including performance management of warehouse. Your
report should also contain a section on emerging concepts in warehouse management.

General Guidelines

a) Please send project details (Group No., Sec., Project Title., Names of the students,
Roll No., Firms to be studied) to the class monitor, who will collate and send me the
consolidated list for each group within 3 weeks of start of the 1st class on SCM (18 Oct
2021). If there are 10 groups in the class, CR should ensure that there should be at least 3
groups from each category of project.

b) NO CHANGE OF PROJECT WILL BE ENTERTAINED AFTER THE

TOPIC HAS BEEN FINALIZED BY THE GROUP. So please think carefully before
deciding and submitting the name of the firm and the topic to the instructor. No changes
will be allowed later.

c) I would suggest that you start the projects very early and not wait till the last minute
to present a satisfactory work.

d) As far as possible, every group should study a different industry. There should not
be any overlapping on the firms studied by groups. In other words, firms studied should be
different for each group. No exceptions allowed or will be tolerated later during the course.

e) Class presentation by each group at the end of the term projects. The project group
for presentation will be selected randomly.

f) The page limit for each report is 6-8 pages of text plus exhibits. These are maximum
limits. The paper should be concise and coherent. Appropriate citations should be made at
the end of the report, if any. Your report should be of professional quality with proper
formatting.

g) Please proofread your paper before turning it in. The first page (not to be counted in
the six-eight-page requirement) should contain the name of the course, project title, project
no. group no., members with their roll nos., and faculty name.

h) The instructor will accept only those reports for evaluation that have complete
information on the first page of the report.
