What’s More
For five days, write a fictional journal entry based from the
situation below. You set yourself that you are the main character. In your
journal entry, you include the different key elements of fiction and
consider the rubrics.
Situation:
Imagine that you will make up an alter ego of oneself. On Day 1, give
him/her a name. Make a very detailed description on how he/she looks like.
On Day 2, write about his/her strengths and weaknesses. On Day 3, write
about the family he/she has. Describe every member of his/her family. On
Day 4, write about his/her ambition in life and the things she will take to
achieve his/her ambition. On Day 5, write the things he/she will do to make
her a better friend, classmate, colleague, and citizen of this country.

DAY 1:
Her name is Mary. She has a round face and has a mole on it. She has a
slightly larger than average forehead, full, well-shaped eye brows, and big
brown eyes. She has long, thick, dark lashes. Her nose is not too sharp but
not too flat. She has dimples, and her mouth is not too big, with slightly
chapped lips. Her teeth are not straight. Her hair is shoulder-length dyed
hair; it's wavy and soft, but it sometimes gets too messy.
She is tall, she has long arms, and she has small hands with slim
fingers. Her nails are long and beautiful. She has the weight that fits for
her height and age. She has thick thighs, long legs, and not too big of a
foot. She has brown skin. She is a hairy type of person.
She loves to play with children. She is a shy type of person when you
first meet her, but once she gets used to a person, she will act like her
normal self. She's a sweet and very kind person. 

DAY 2:
She's a well-behaved person. She follows what her parents tell her to.
She doesn't know how to lie, as she gets guilty immediately. If she wants
something, she will work hard for it. She's dedicated to doing something.
And you can really trust her. Her family is also one of her greatest
strengths, above all.

Her greatest weakness is also her family. Sometimes, she's too focused
on criticizing herself rather than being proud of what she can do. She's
also a procrastinator; she lacks time management and focus sometimes.

DAY 3:
She has a complete and happy family consisting of five members: her
father, Tonyo, her mother, Mel, her siblings, Ian and Nette, and me, the
eldest child. They all live in a simple house somewhere far away from the
city. Her father and mother wanted a peaceful life. That's why they chose
to live in an area that is far away from the city. Furthermore, her mother
is already 39 years old, a housewife, and her father is in his forties, a
tricycle driver. Ian is a student at high school and he is 16 years old,
while Nette is in Grade 4, a 9-year-old girl.

DAY 4:
Mary wanted to pass the exams for PNPA and PMA. She aspired to be a
police officer in the future, which is why she was determined to pass the
exams. In addition, her mother's ambition was to become a police officer,
but she was unable to complete her education because of financial problems.
That is also one of the reasons why she should complete her education and
become a police officer.
She also wanted to be a psychologist in the future, in order to help
those with mental health and emotional difficulties. Also, the reward of
helping people overcome their challenges is heartwarming.
Most importantly, she really wants to graduate and find a job that
pays a better salary and helps her parents with their financial problems.
She's eager to do her best just to at least help them.
Her plan to achieve what she desired, or to succeed in life, must be
focused and determined.

DAY 5:
To make her a better person for everyone, she needs to be respectful,
like respecting each other's differences. Always having a positive mind in
order to have a positive vibe. Not forgetting to be kind to everyone. Being
an honest human being, lying will only worsen the problem or the situation.
Always look back to where you came from. Lastly, respect the culture and
tradition of this country and support local.

Additional Activity
Remember your last encounter with someone wherein you felt insulted
and betrayed. Can you vividly reminisce the exact words he/she said to you?
I know it’s painful. For you to be able to at least lessen the pain you
felt, I am giving you the chance to change the words he/she said to you at
that time. Re-create the short scene between you at that someone who
insulted and betrayed you. However, this time you change the words he/she
exactly told you which made you feel insulted and betrayed. Make these
words not hurtful for you. The two of you will be the main characters but
you may not use your real names.
In re-creating the short scene, you incorporate key elements of
fiction, literary devices and techniques. Take note, the rubrics to be used
is the same with the rubrics given in ‘What’s More.

--“Are you sure you want to consume that much of food?” This is a
pathetic display of disrespect. People believe that they are being helpful
and considerate by saying this, which is the most ridiculous aspect of the
whole situation, well sorry to pop their bubbles, it isn’t helpful.
Take it easy on a girl who wants to eat a large portion of food. She
is only doing so because she is hungry. No one should be forced to starve
themselves to death in order to be admired by other people.
RECREATION OF THE SCENE:
HERMAN: Eat more, don’t starve yourself. Don’t mind what others will say as
long as your stomach is satisfied.
MAY: I wouldn’t have eaten my second batch of food, but, because of what
you said, you made me even encourage. Thank you very much!

Study the script of the one-act play that follows and identify its
plot structure. You will notice that there are statements, phrases or words
written inside the parenthesis (). These are the stage directions or the
expected emotion, action or specific instructions provided by the
playwright to guide the actors in portraying their characters.

 Gloria asked Mario to at least give his salary for her daughter
but Mario can’t give anything since he was fired to his job and

Gloria got mad and didn’t want Mario to accept Pablo’s offer.

 Mario accepted the invite of Pablo even though he knows that he

three characters who will be part of your story line. Illustrate each

Against The Barrier

EXPOSITION Astrid gets ready to go for her new condo in

Makati as she will be working on the famous
clothing company in the Philippines, De Velar
Company. Astrid’s boyfriend Vio comes over to her
house to say goodbye and bring her to her new
condo in Makati.
RISING ACTION Astrid meets her new neighbor. Later she saw a 2
boys visited her neighbor in his condo. Astrid’s
mother does not like the boys nor her neighbor,
but Astrid does not want to draw attention to
herself by switching to another condo unit. Her
neighbor invites Astrid to a party.
CLIMAX Astrid goes to the party. Her neighbor and
everyone else at the party get drunk. So she is
stuck there for the night. Astrid talks to Daxel,
but he is being rude to her.
FALLING ACTION Astrid goes to another party. Her neighbor and
their group of friends play truth or dare. Astrid
and Daxel have their first kiss. Astrid starts
liking Daxel, but she found out that Daxel,
doesn’t date. Her boyfriend, Vio, finds out about
the kiss and dump her.
RESOLUTION Daxel falls in love with Tessa and tells her he
wants to be with her. They start dating, Astrid
later find out about the bet and that Daxel made
with his friends to see if he could get with
Astrid.

You can still modify or edit the details of your story. What matters is that you already know
the basic steps in conceptualizing a story. Are you ready to specify the setting of your
