IMC NON - STEM G2

“What I learned from the Midterm Class in IMC”
What I learned from our subject which is IMC is that communication is very important
that’s why I must enhance my communication strategies on how I talk to my board
mates, how I show respect to them, and on how I interact with them. On board you can
meet different people with different cultures so you must know their culture so that you
can adjust and you can avoid misunderstandings with them. It is important to read your
environment if you think that you joke is not good for others don’t do it again it’s okay to
joke with others but you should know the proper way and proper place where you can
do that because there are some people who don’t take jokes and can do unnecessary
things to you if you make them angry. Your behavior is also very important, you should
not be so arrogant to your board mates because it can create a conflict. Always be
patient, control your temper, and be a friendly person. You should always do your given
job properly and safely not just for you but also for the people around you. Wear
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure safety examples: safety goggles for eye
protection, ear muffs for noisy environment, protective helmets to protect you head from
falling objects, coverall etc. Always follow the instructions given to you to avoid risks.
Follow signs, example if you see the word NO SMOKING don’t try to smoke in that
area because it’s to much hazardous especially if the cargo is carrying chemicals.
Always use your common sense.
I also learn the different types of ships like RO-RO ships, Gas carriers, Bulk carriers, Oil
tankers, Livestock vessels, Container ship, Cruise ship and others. RO-RO ships are
cargo ships that carry wheeled cargo like cars, trucks buses, etc. Gas carriers are
tankers used to carry liquefied gases like natural gas petroleum gases and others. Bulk
carriers designed to transport unpackaged bulk cargo like grains, coal, coils and cement
in its cargo holds. Oil tankers designed to transport oils . Livestock vessels designed to
carry animals like goats, cows, sheep, and others. Container ship designed to transport
large, standard – size containers of freight . Cruise ship a large passenger ship mainly
use for vacationing it travels in many countries I hope someday I can experience this.
In my IMC subject I learned what it takes to be a seafarer so from now on I will develop
my communication skills, personality, behavior, social interaction, and comprehension
so that I can adjust myself on board especially for the people around me and also
prevent my self from risks that could harm my board mates. While listening to my
teacher Sir. Vlad and classmates talking about the places they want to travel especially
in Brazil also makes me excited to also travel and discover different countries, different
cultures, different oceans, and meet different people. I will keep improving my skills to
be a good student and a good seafarer.
