What I learned from the Midterm Class in IMC.

Is first the Introduction In Maritime Career (IMC), Such a prolific

industry, provides a wide variety of careers in the maritime trade
world. No matter what your background is- engineering, technical,
commercial or industrial- there is probably a maritime career path for
you. But having a maritime career is about more than just your
education or experience.

Maritime is very important because We ship food, technology,

medicines, and memories. As the world's population continues to
grow, particularly in developing countries, low-cost and efficient
maritime transport has an essential role to play in growth and
sustainable development. ... Maritime transport is the backbone of
global trade and the global economy.

Maritime is a very good career for me. Wages earned by seafarers

are normally above similar professions ashore. According to the ICS,
in developing countries, ships' officers working on internationally
trading ships are amongst the very highest paid in their countries.
Opportunities for accumulating savings, even when young, are
considerable.

Introduction In Maritime Career, I learned the different topics

included in this subject.

In lesson 1, I learned about the Baltic and International Maritime

Council (BIMCO). Baltic and International Maritime Council
marine. A commercial shipping trade organisation headquartered in
Copenhagen. BIMCO is one of the largest international organisations
of ship owners in the world.
BIMCO is one of the largest of the international shipping associations
representing shipowners. BIMCO states that its membership
represents approximately 60 percent of the world's merchant shipping
tonnage and that it has members in more than 130 countries,
including managers, brokers and agents. The role is BIMCO states
that its primary objective is to protect its global membership through
the provision of information and advice, while promoting fair business
practices and facilitating harmonisation and standardisation of
commercial shipping practices and contracts.

In lesson 2, I learn about The International Convention for the

Safety of Life at Sea also known as SOLAS is an international
maritime treaty that sets minimum safety standards in the
construction, equipment and operation of merchant ships. The
convention requires signatory flag states to ensure that ships flagged
by them comply with at least these standards. It was defined that the
SOLAS Convention in its successive forms is generally regarded as
the most important of all international treaties concerning the safety of
merchant ships and the amendments of this. For me, it was very
informative because as I read the main objectives, the procedures,
and the regulations it widens my idea and give me a piece of
knowledge about this subject. I believe that I could apply this in my
incoming career. One of the most important things that I learned is
the proper usage of safety equipment. Safety equipment is
specifically designed to help protect workers against health or safety
risks on the job site. By wearing the appropriate safety equipment,
workers can decrease the number of preventable accidents.

In lesson 3, the different types of ships, I’m shocked when I first

time to hear and saw the photo of different ships. It is big and has a
different design. It is my dream and ambition to stand and be one of
the crew. I learned that why ships have a different shape, the shape
is chosen to strike a balance between cost, hydrostatic
considerations (accommodation, load carrying, and stability),
hydrodynamics (speed, power requirements, and motion and
behavior in a seaway), and special considerations for the ship's role.
And last but not the least is, Sir Vlad taught me that no matter what
the challenges is, don't easily to give up and study hard for your
better future and be comfortable what difficult works are coming from
you. Always think positive and just trust the process.
