CYLINDERS & RODS

Cylinder Repair Indicators:
- Cylinder oil leak
- Custom Hydraulic Service inspection
and/or operators note excessive
cylinder drift and slow cycle times

When the aforementioned indicators are

present, the following repair options may
apply:
Reseal with Light Honing
Includes:
- Restoring cylinder bore to like-new
condition (surface finish and geometry)
- Installing new piston and head seals
- Washing and pressure testing

Benefits:
- Restores maximum machine
performance

- Enables piston seals

to achieve full
design life
- Eliminates
internal leaks
(drift)

Oversize Honing
(Requires production hone)
Includes:
- Honing cylinder tube oversize to
remove deep scratches and bore
distortions
- Installing Cat® oversize piston seals
and standard head seals
- Washing and pressure testing

Benefits:
- Restores maximum cylinder performance
at less cost than retube or Reman.
Retube
Includes:
- Welding the original end cap, eye,
flange and trunnion to new tube stock
- Honing, washing and pressure testing
Benefits:
- Restores cylinder to like-new condition
using dealer machine shop capability

Reman Cylinder Assembly

Often the best solution when machine
uptime is critical. Reman Cylinders
offer same-as-new quality at fraction-of-
new prices. Available off-the-shelf for
most Cat applications.

If rods suffer minor scratches or

bending, the following repair
options should be considered:
- polishing
- straightening
- chrome plating
(usually requires an outside supplier)

When rod damage is more severe,

rerodding and Reman Rods become
viable options.

Rerod
Includes:
- Welding the original rod eye to new
cylinder rod stock
Benefits:
- Restores rod to like-new condition
using dealer machine shop capability

Reman Rod
Often the best solution when machine
uptime is critical. Reman Rods offer
same-as-new quality at fraction-of-new
prices. Available off-the-shelf for most
Cat applications.

PUMPS & MOTORS
Pump/Motor Repair Indicators:
• Leaks
• Insufficient pump flow/motor output
torque speed
• Reduced implement or travel speed
• Excessive, noise, heat or vibration
• High particulate levels in hydraulic fluid
• Intermittent or “sticky” controls
• Custom Hydraulic Service (CHS)
inspection indicates 10,000+ hours of
performance on piston pump/motor or
6,000+ hours on vane or gear pump/motor
• CHS inspection indicates pump or motor
problem
• Obvious external damage

When the
aforementioned
indicators are present,
the following repair
options may apply:

Remove & Repair Before Failure

Benefits: Pump/Motor core has high
value for repairs. Avoids extended
machine downtime by repairing as a
scheduled activity.

Reman Vane Cartridges;

Reman Pump/Motor Groups (Piston)
Benefits: Often the best option when
machine uptime is critical. Same-as-
new quality at fraction-of-new prices.
