BIO DEGRADABLE SYNTHETIC FIBER
Background:
In modern era the uses of textile material are increases day by day therefore the use of textile
fiber is increased. For this purpose, synthetic fiber has become very a popular solution that is
successfully used in textile industry. Synthetic fibers are characterized by high durability less
cost but at same time a one of most important drawback is non biodegrade able.
In recent years’ scientist such a lot of efforts to search a technique to synthesis that polymer
which are biodegradable and less impact on environment.
In that assignment I discuss some synthetic polymer which are completely or partially
biodegradable and used in textile and also discuss synthetic technics which made polymers bio-
degradable.
Biodegradable polymers
Biodegradable polymers are a special class of polymer that breaks down after its intended
purpose by bacterial decomposition process to result in natural byproducts such as gases
(CO2, N2), water, biomass, and inorganic salts. These polymers are found both naturally
and synthetically made, and largely consist of ester, amide, and ether functional groups. Their
properties and breakdown mechanism are determined by their exact structure. These polymers
are often synthesized by condensation reactions, ring opening polymerization, and metal
catalysts.
2.REPREVE:
REPREVE recycled polyester which is made from PET bottles. Use it to make almost anything
sustainable, with filament, staple fiber and fiber fill products. REPREVE polyester fiber can also
have wicking, thermal comfort, and other performance technologies embedded in the fiber
4.Renewcell:
Renewcell is tackling that problem with Circulose, a natural and biodegradable raw material
made by recovering cotton from worn-out clothes. The process powered by renewable energy
—uses eco-friendly chemicals to break down and strip color from incoming fabrics that might
otherwise be discarded. Then, synthetic fibers are removed, leaving behind a sheet of cellulose
pulp, which can be turned into like-new textile fibers that are ready to be woven into fresh
fabric
