Welcome to Section 5 of this course. In this section we will cover the underlying
principles behind lucid dream control as well tactics to accomplish specific tasks
Advanced dream control is possible but unfortunately a lot of Internet marketers oversell
how easy it is.
Advanced dream control requires a profound shift in your perception of reality so don't
be frustrated if your initial attempts at dream control don't go according to plan.
One of the best ways to have better control of your dreams is to plan out ahead of
time what you want to do in a dream. Often, when beginners become lucid, they have
no idea what to do and they miss out on a brilliant opportunity to have some fun.
Once you have an idea of what you want to do in a dream don't just leave it at that.
Actually rehearse the dream while you are awake. See yourself flying across the world,
feel the wind through your hair, feel the excitement and exhilaration of it all. Actually
rehearse how you want the entire dream to play out. Having a clear goal or
destination will make it easier to navigate the dream world.
Your dream world is your playground, you get to set the rules. Any limitations you
have exist in your mind.
Do not feel guilty for not pursuing high minded goals like self-realization and giving into
your more basic desires.
The more we enjoy our lucid dreams, the more likely we are to put the time into
developing our lucid dreaming skills.

Even though you have the ability to control your dreams, be careful. Understand just
because you have power over the dream world, it doesn't carry over to the waking
state. Before attempting anything risky, always test waters first. For example, if you are
trying to fly, take off from the ground first rather than jumping of a tall building.
Also, be respectful to your dream characters. Even though you can do whatever you
want to them, be kind to them because they are a part of you.
- Stephen LaBerge
Or more simply:
- Daniel Love
Your level of conscious awareness and expectation will determine the level of dream
control you can achieve.
Why?
Essentially your dreams are created from our lifetime of knowledge, experience, and
expectations. We have certain ingrained believes about the world around us (eg. gravity

and other laws of physics). However, in a lucid dream a lot of these rules don't apply
and we are free to do things that are impossible in our waking lives.
Other ingrained expectations are not as obvious. For example in a dream there are no
indoors or outdoors. They are simply a mental construct. You don't have to have to fly to
Paris, you can teleport if you wish. In a dream you can breathe underwater, etc. We
carry so many beliefs about the world without even realizing it.
"Once we have developed the ability to have lucid dreams, we must be stable enough in
presence to stabilize the dreams...Until the practice is developed, the dreamer will
sometimes control the dream and sometimes the dream will control the dreamer."
Lucidity is not a light switch that is either turned on or off, it's a spectrum. It ranges from
complete unconsciousness (non-lucid) to fully lucid.

In general there about 3 stages of lucidity:
2) Semi-lucidity: Partial awareness that one is dreaming, without fully realizing one
has the ability to shape the dream to their will
3) Full Lucidity: Full awareness that one is dreaming and can explore the dream on
their own terms.
The more awareness you have in your dreams, the easier it will be to control the dream
around you. So the question is how do we increase our awareness?
Next time you become lucid, immediately perform one of the simple dream stabilizing
techniques to increase your awareness:
Remind yourself that you are dreaming by repeating phrases like "I'm dreaming....I'm
dreaming, etc."
During a dream you have control over your breathing so breathe deeply to help
maintain conscious awareness.

Try doing some math:
Basic math like adding 2+2 can engage the logical part of your brain.
Another way to keep your dreams stable is to prepare what you want to dream about
before going to sleep.
Once you've established that you are lucid and have grounded yourself, you can use
the following techniques to shape your dreams according to your will:
Wishing:
Even though this technique is the simplest it is difficult for beginners, because they still
have strong ingrained beliefs about what is impossible.
Ironically it is advanced lucid dreamers who can use this technique most effectively.

Reframing:
Use a mental framework that takes you away from believing the rules of the waking
world still apply
As you become more successful with reframing the less you will need to do it, and the
more you will simply trust your ability to wish anything that you want.
If you become lucid, but are not in the location you want to be there are two powerful
techniques you can use to change your dream scene. One is to use the "Behind closed
doors" approach and the other is "Dream Spinning"

Behind Closed Doors
Tip: If you don't have a door nearby use "dream logic" and imagine pulling a door or
portal out of your pocket.

Common Dream Control Problems
If you're struggling with controlling your dreams, the most likely reason is a lack of
awareness. There is a big difference between simply noticing your are dreaming
and understanding the power you have to shape your dreams.
ALWAYS ground yourself first and bring full awareness to your dreams before
attempting to control your dreams
Now that I have given you general techniques about how to manipulate the dream
environment it is really up to you what you want to try out. In this next few pages I will
explain how to accomplish specific things in a dream.
We human beings are sexual creatures. However, societal rules often make it difficult
for us to fully explore that side of ourselves. Lucid dreaming is a very powerful way to
live out our fantasies so don't be ashamed.
Lucid dreaming sex feels just as real as in waking life, and orgasms are possible. There
are anecdotal stories about men ejaculating in a dream, but the science is inconclusive.
However, the majority of people don't ejaculate in real life from a dream.
Also keep in mind that during REM sleep, males and females both experience
heightened sexual arousal. So even though you may have had the noble intention to
explore consciousness, inner creativity and have a better understanding of the world
around you, you may find you are initially drawn to more basal desires. This is perfectly
fine, and as a matter of fact I encourage you to explore these desires first.

Just note, even though this is a dream please be respectful to all of your dream
characters, men and women. Remember that they are ultimately a part of you.
Contrary to how erotic dreams are marketed, they are not as easy as they seem for
several reasons:
Using the dream manipulation techniques mentioned in the previous pages get yourself
into an environment where you can find the man or woman or men and women you
want to be with
You could be with your favorite celebrity one second and then have her face turned into
the Wicked Witch. If this is the case, don't panic. Remind yourself that you are dreaming
and you can change them back.
Yes. Even though this your dream, sometimes the other person will just not be into you.
Accept the rejection and try someone else. Never force a dream character, it's just not
ethical. The reason they reject you may also be due to subconscious insecurities and
beliefs about who you deserve to be with. If that is a case you may want to improve
yourself image, but that isn't for the scope of this course.

4) Sensations may be overwhelming.
If you are a beginner the sensations of sex may be overwhelming and cause you to
wake up. So it's better to learn to relax in the dream environment first before attempting
to have wild sexual adventures.
All the problems mentioned can be solved by grounding yourself and increasing self-
awareness. Perform the dream stabilization techniques to prolong and enhance your
sexual escapades.
Flying is the second most common wish of most people who want to lucid dream. It can
be one of the most exhilarating experiences you ever have.
Disclaimer: be careful when flying. I recommend even if you are dreaming that you
don't take off from a high place. Always take off from the ground first.
Flying in a dream may be challenging for beginners because our minds have a firm
belief that it isn't possible. Some of you may even have a fear of heights. You need to
change your beliefs and expectations, anything is possible in a dream.
However, if you are just beginning I recommend you start of by just trying to float.
Once you have had the experience of floating then try to actually fly.
Different lucid dreamers have different methods for taking to the sky. Some fly like
Superman, others use a jet pack, Quidditch broom, flying carpet, or fly on top of a
mythical creature.

Find a flying method that works for you and try it out for yourself.
You're flying adventures need not be limited to Earth. Try flying to different planets or
galaxies.
Lucid Dreaming can be powerful tool for creative problem solving, because we have
greater access to our unconscious mind.
According to Dr. LaBerge there are 2 main ways to use lucid dreaming to solve
problems:
For example if you are struggling with a science problem you can conjure up Einstein of
Sir Isaac Newton to help you.
The answers ultimately come from you, but this tactic frees you from self-limiting beliefs
you have about your own knowledge/ abilities.

2 - Incubate a lucid dream about the problem
2) Afterwards you go through a period of incubation where you allow the information to
seep into your unconscious mind.
3) Then when you are lucid you will be more likely to encounter an idea, person, or
image that can help solve the issue
This works because according to Daniel Love, “sometimes, the only barrier between
you and the solution to an issue is not a lack of knowledge, but a lack of creative
association between your current knowledge"
Basically, you have a lot more knowledge than you realize, and your dreams can be a
place where these elements "click" and you discover a novel solution to the problem
you are experiencing.
Athletes use lucid dreaming to enhance their game. They practice different moves,
plays, and techniques inside their heads.

Research from Stanford has shown that when participants visualize performing an
activity (while awake) their muscles fire as if they were actually performing the
activity.
When participants performed an activity in their lucid dreams (eg. sing, have sex), the
same neurons in their body and mind respond as if they were actually performing
the activity.
Therefore lucid dreaming can actually be used to practice certain skills such as sports,
martial arts, dancing, etc.
In order to use lucid dreaming to practice physical skills it is more helpful if you have
some experience performing these skills in the waking world. Once you have an
understanding of the basic physical movements, you can use lucid dreaming to practice
and further enhance those skills
If you there is a physical skill you want to master, try the following 5 steps:
Before going to bed, have a clear understanding of what you want to accomplish in the
dream (is there a specific move, or play you want to practice). Mentally rehearse the
dream before sleep.
Next time you are lucid, first take the time to increase your self-awareness and stabilize
the dream through one of the dream stabilization techniques.

3) Travel to practice environment
Travel/ teleport to the dream environment that is most suitable for your training (gym,
soccer pitch, football stadium, boxing ring, etc)
4) Begin training
Use the dream environment to push yourself harder than you would in waking life. This
is a dream so don't have to worry about injuries.
NOTE: When you are actually practicing in waking life don't be as bold because you
actually can get hurt.
When you wake up, immediately write your dream journal and make notes on any
improvements/ realizations you made during your lucid dream practice session.
If you ever wanted to learn how to dance, do martial arts, or play a sport, lucid dreaming
can be a powerful tool to help you master these skills.
In psychology one of the most powerful therapies is exposure therapy. Patients are
exposed to their feared object or context in a safe environment in order to overcome
their anxiety. More tech savvy psychologists even hook their patients up to virtual reality
simulators so they can learn to relax in stressful environments. Lucky for us, lucid
dreams are the ultimate virtual reality simulator.

If you suffer from certain fears or anxieties, lucid dreaming can be a powerful way to do
exposure therapy.
For example if you suffer from social anxiety, you might be too nervous to practice your
social skills at a party.
Instead, you can create a lucid dream environment where you are free to practice
overcoming your fears.
Because lucid dreams are so vivid, our brains have difficulty telling the difference
between the dream and waking state. Therefore, any positive social experiences you
have in your dreams will increase your confidence in the waking world as well.
You can also use lucid dreams to overcome your fear of public speaking, spiders,
snakes, and so much more.
I have given you a very brief and simplified example. If you are truly serious about
overcoming your anxieties, I recommend you see a qualified psychologist/ psychiatrist
and read up on various therapies out there.
Lucid dreaming is a tool that can help you along the way, but it is not a substitute
for professional help.

In this method you re-imagine the nightmare but end it with a positive outcome. See the
nightmare as a dream sign and remind yourself to become lucid the next time you
experience it. When you encounter this nightmare again you can become lucid and
shape the dream to have the positive outcome that you want.
Another technique comes from Rebecca Turner from "The World of Lucid Dreaming".
She recommends to just face your fears. Don't run away from them. Instead, once you
are lucid, ask the nightmare what it wants from you. This may lead to surprising insights
about your subconscious fears.
Other Applications
I have barely scratched the surface on what's possible in a lucid dream. I could make
another 10 courses just on what to do in lucid dreams because the possibilities are
endless.
Ultimately what you do in your lucid dreams are up to you, but here are some other
ideas to get your imagination going:

Meet your mentors
Explore your senses (taste, smell, touch)
As much fun as dream control can be, I sometimes find it enjoyable to just let dreams
run their course. Rather than actively trying to shape my dreams, I play the role of
passive observer. It can be very interesting to see what your subconscious mind comes
up with.
However, none of this is possible if you don't do the core foundations. Are you updating
your dream journal? Are you analysing dreamsigns every week? Are you doing 5-10
reality checks every day? Are you practicing relaxation/ meditation techniques? Have
you practiced any induction techniques?
In the next section we will dive into the world of supplements and how they can help
with the induction of lucid dreams.
