The Newtec USS0202 1+1 RF input and RF/L-band

output downconverter redundancy switching system –

UF122_D
Introduction
The Newtec USS0202 redundancy switching system is a versatile and modular system
that allows you to construct almost any possible redundancy system.
It consists of a main controller unit that can hold several switching modules.
In case more modules are needed that cannot be physically fitted into the main
controller unit, extension units can be added to house those modules.

This approach allows you to build simple 1+1 systems up to more complex N+1
systems. This system can also control groups of 1+1 or N+1 systems.
Redundancy groups are independently controlled.

Switching can be done automatically and/or manually by means of the front panel or
remote monitor and control. Although the switching system is a perfect match for
ST Engineering iDirect equipment, other non-ST Engineering iDirect equipment can be
handled as well. The definition of the switching logic and used modules is called a
“configuration”.

The most commonly used applications are documented in standardized configurations

in order to relieve you of the design process. In case a more complex system is needed,
contact our sales team (sales@idirect.net).

About this configuration: 1+1 downconverter redundancy

This configuration can be used for downconverters in a 1+1 configuration.

The redundancy switching system consists of two cross-over switches
(to allow selection of which downconverter is on-air) and alarm contact closure detection
modules that detect which downconverter raises an alarm.
The alarm contact closures output of each of the downconverters is connected by
means of an alarm cable to the alarm contact closure detection module.

When the automatic mode is activated, the redundancy system monitors the alarm
contacts of the active downconverter. When an alarm is detected, the input and output
signals are switched, effectively rerouting the input and output signals to the spare
downconverter. The fast switching ensures a minimal service interruption.

In manual control mode, the redundancy switch is controlled either by an operator

(via the front panel or the GUI) or via an external NMS, there will not be automatic
switch over on the occurrence of an alarm.
