1.Introduction
Keeping track of information flow on construction job site is a vital task that has a direct bearing
on the timely completion of a building project. The majority of project schedule overruns are
caused by the lack of adequate resources needed to accomplish individual activities in a timely
manner. Accurate and timely information on the status of project resources needed by
construction management so as to make the best possible decisions about activity scheduling
with due with consideration give to resource availability.

Construction Management is a professional field that focuses on each part of the construction
process of any built environment. It typically encompasses commercial building site or multi-
unit residential sites. Construction Management of the site may be maintained by a general
constructor or a separator entity, and the construction management personnel or company
answers to the development and is responsible for overseeing every aspect of the project from
start to finish.

1.2. Background of the organization

Wolaita Sodo University is one of the known Universities in Ethiopia. It is found in the
southern part of Ethiopia 390km far from Addis Ababa. The construction is start in 1997.This
University gives different courses in different departments. Among these departments
Information Technology is the one in which we going to develop a web-based application to the
office of Construction Management office (project office).

1.3. Motivation
Our motivation to do this project is that almost all Construction process in the system is
working physically and manually. Due to these, it can be faced by different problems. In
order to solve those problems we propose these automate system. The proposed system
provides users an easy, effective and efficient way of recording, retrieving, sending along
with saving any vital information’s.

The computer is now available in much of people’s house and they simply register by using
it. So, that is why we are highly motivated to do our project on web.

1.4. Statement of the problem
The overall activities of the WSU construction information management is under taken
manually. Because of these manual activities problems like: - lack of good time management,
Lack of data accessibility for engineering units at the right time and problems in schedule
creation.

There are repetitive and bulky activities like recording employee information, recording material
information and task schedule, adding new project. Due to these the office is facing a lot of
problems that need much improvement in order to assist in realizing organizational objectives.
The manual way of data handling and running up of the activities is tedious.

1.5. Objectives

1.5.1. General Objectives

The general objective of this project is to design and develop computerized system for the
construction management office of WSU.

1.5.2. Specific Objectives

In order to achieve the main objective, we have developed the following specific objectives:

 To reduce response time

 To Improve data accessibility
 To store the data into the database
 To Reduce processing error
 To Improve recording information

1.6. Scope of the project

The scope of the project is clearly stated below as a result of what the system is expected to
perform. The proposed system covers the following main tasks:

 manage employee Information

 managing project material
 management project schedule
 Allow users to comment each other
 Allowing employee to give feedback about project

1.7. Limitation of the project

 The system doesn’t support some authentication method such like of face recognition,
fingerprint and other.

The system does not have use online

The information stored only wolaita sodo university construction

The system uses only stored information

1.8. Significance of the project

 Save the time that is lost while recording employee information manually
 Protect the organization file from unauthorized access
 To handle construction material information in better way
 Better and fast process scheduling

1.9. Methodology

1.9.1. Method of Data Collection

To propose this project we will used the following data collection method.

Interview

we interview with head of the construction manager to get an overview of the current system
and the problem of the existing system.

Personal observation

we made observation how to manage construction information and how to store data in their
office. we made this observation orally by asking the construction manager.

1.10. System development method

We have selected object oriented system analysis and design approach because of due to the
following reasons. The project use object oriented system development methodology (OOSD).

• It enables us to comprehensively model a system before we develop it.

• Modification of the object implementation is easy because objects are loosely coupled.

• Understanding of the structure is easy because object oriented modeling and tools used to
represent real world entities.

1.10.1. Object Oriented Analysis (OOA)
During this phase the function of the system (use case modeling), find and identify the business
objects organize the objects and identify the relationship between them and finally model the
behavior of the objects.

1.10.2. Object Oriented Design (OOD)

During this phase the Rational Rose enterprise edition software to refine the use case model, and
to reflect the implantation environment, model object interactions and behavior that support the
use case scenario, and finally update object model to reflect the implementation environment.

1.11. Development Tools

Software development tools

 HTML:- To work the Client side coding

 JavaScript:- To work the Client side scripting
 MySQL Database server:- For designing the database
 PHP :- To work the Server side scripting
 Browser___ IE, Mozilla :- Since our system is web based, it is very necessary
requirement.
 Editor___ notepad++:- To work and edit the codes
 Ms Word:-For the Documentation
 Edraw max 9.1: For designing Unified Modelling Language (UML) diagrams.
