Introduction
The Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) was established by an Act (Act-
No.27) of the Legislative Assembly of the Government of Tamilnadu in
2002. As per this Act the University with its headquarters at Chennai is
carrying out its academic activities across the State of Tamilnadu.

Admission Process
The TNOU has converted all its Admission operations and its process into online. Hence the applications for admission into all the pro-
grammes will be accepted only through online. Please refer TNOU website https://tnouadmissions.in/onlineapp/ for online admission.
The University has established Twelve Regional Centres throughout Tamilnadu to assist the applicants for the admission into various
Programmes and for coordinating their learning activities.
The academic activities of the University are carried out in two admission cycles, i.e., Calendar Year cycle commencing from the month
of January and Academic Year cycle commencing from the month of July every year.

Submission of Application Form

1. Before submitting the Application, applicants are asked to read carefully and thoroughly the prospectus which is available in the
TNOU website (www.tnou.ac.in). Before applying through online, check your eligibility regarding minimum required age, educational
qualiication and experience for the programmes applied for.

2. Copies of the certiicates, photograph, Aadhar card (Number) of the applicant and the signature of the applicant should be self
attested and uploaded.
 3. Eligiblility for the admission into Bachelor Degree is that applicants should possess award of 10+2 from school Education/10+2years
Indstrial Training Institute (I.T.I)/or 10+3years any Diploma Courses/10+2 years National institute of Open School (NIOS) Certiicate.

4. Only those applicants who have passed the qualifying examination under the 10+2+3 pattern or from the Colleges or under recognised
University will be eligible for admission for Post Graduate Degree.

5. If the copies of the Certiicates enclosed are in a language other than Tamil or English, a true version of the Certiicates in Tamil or
English duly certiied by a person authorised to attest the Certiicates or self-attested must be enclosed.

Mode of Payment of Fee

For all the Programmes, the fees shall be paid to the University only through online. However, Demand Drafts will be accepted towards
the payment in the name of “Tamil Nadu Open University” payable at “Chennai” for Admission fee, Registration fee, Examination fee,
Provisional Certiicate and Convocation fee drawn from any Nationalised Banks.

Processing of Application Forms, Allotment of Enrollment Number and Issue of ID Cards

The Admission Section shall, after detailed examination of the online Application, allot the Enrollment Number and send the ID Cards to
the students. The students shall quote the Enrollment Number in all their future correspondences with the University.
In respect of cases, where the Applicant has not opted for any Learner Support Centres as required in the Application, the Admission

Section shall attach the Applicant to the Learner Support Centre nearest to the address for correspondence furnished by the Applicant.
The University will send the Student Identity Card to his/her address.

Issue of Duplicate Identity Card

In case of loss of Identity Card, the student shall apply to The Controller of Examinations, TNOU for the issuance of Duplicate Identity
Card in the prescribed form given in link - https://tnou.ac.in/download-forms/, with a prescribed fee of Rs.150/- paid vide using
Debit Card / Demand Draft drawn in favour of “Tamil Nadu Open University” payable at Chennai.

In case of non-receipt of Identity Card, students may write to The Controller of Examinations, TNOU for getting Duplicate Identity Card.
The Duplicate Identity Card in such cases will be issued free of cost.

Mode of Payment of Second / Third Year Fee

A student after the completion of the irst year shall make the second and third year fee only through online which is available in the TNOU
website www.tnou.ac.in. Further, Demand Draft will not be accepted towards the Second/Third year fee.

Refund of Fee
The Programme fee once paid shall not be refunded. However, if on scrutiny, the Applicant is found not eligible for admission to his/her
Programme of choice, an amount of Rs.500/- shall be deducted by the University as processing fee and the balance amount of the fee
paid to the University shall be refunded to the Applicant.

Change of Address
If the student desires to register a change of address for correspondence, the same may be informed to The Controller of Examinations,

Change of Programme
The student is permitted a one time change of Programme in the irst year of study only, before the completion of the respective
Calender year/Academic year admission process. However, no change of Programme is permitted from Certiicate Programme to other
Programmes and the vice versa.
A student opting for a change in the Programme/Course should pay: The additional amount of Programme fee, if any, over and above the
fee already paid for the original Programme.
The student should write to The Controller of Examinations, TNOU in the prescribed form given in https://tnou.ac.in/download-forms/ with
a fee of Rs 1000/- towards processing fee plus additional programme fee paid vide using Debit Card/Demand Draft drawn in favour of
“Tamil Nadu Open University” payable at Chennai.
In case, the Programme fee already paid for the original Programme are more than that of the newly opted Programme, no refund of the
diference in the amount shall be made to the student.

Students are permitted to change the medium of study only in the irst year of study, before the completion of the respective Calender

Change of Learner Support Centres (LSCs)
Requests in the prescribed format given in the link - https://tnou.ac.in/download-forms/ for change of Learner Study Centre to which a student is
attached shall be considered only

(i) if the said Learner Support Centre is closed, or

(ii) if the Learner Support Centre does not continue to extend facilities for the Programme chosen by the student, or
(iii) If the student moves out of the District in which he/she was originally residing and desires, to be attached to a Study Centre nearer to his/her
new address.
In the case of contingencies referred to at (i) and (ii) above the University shall attach the student to another Learner Support Centre under due
intimation to the student and the Learner Support Centre concerned.
In the case of the contingency referred to at (iii) students are required to pay a fee of Rs.500/- vide using Debit Card/Demand Draft drawn in favour
of “Tamil Nadu Open University” payable at Chennai, along with the prescribed form given in link - https://tnou.ac.in/download-forms/.
