Activity 2: Understanding COVID-19 through the Cell Theory

 The reason COVID-19 and other coronaviruses are not a

bacterium lies in the cell theory. The first law of cell states

that all known living things are made out of cell, this law

contradicts the existence of COVID-19 since the composition of

COVID-19 is basically a protein coating pieces of RNA and DNA and

it lacks basic cell components such as cytoplasm, nuclei and

other organelles making COVID-19 not a cell. The second law

mentions that all cells come from pre-existing cells by cell

division, Coronaviruses such as COVID-19 doesn’t reproduce by its

own since it lacks basic cell components needed to reproduce and

it also needs a host to replicate itself. The law indicates that

cells contain hereditary information which is passed from cell to

cell during cell division, COVID-19 isn’t considered a cell but

it contains RNA and DNA information gained by duplicating itself.

In the fourth law, because COVID-19 replicate itself it has the

same composition like other replicates which states that all

cells are basically the same in chemical information. And in the

last law of cell theory all energy flow of life occurs within

cells COVID doesn’t need energy to survive since it can basically

survive consuming nothing as long as its inside a host.

COVID-19 is not a bacterium since it violates 3 of the laws

of cell theory thus classifying COVID-19 a virus rather than a

bacterium.

Activity 3: Cell Theory in Action

1. How do you relate the generation of maggots with the cell

theory?

It is under the second law of cell theory which states that

"All cells come from pre-existing cells by division “. The

presence of maggots is available in Jar A and B this is due

to the lack of cover on which Flies have the opportunity to

lay eggs, meanwhile there's no maggots in Jar c because

Flies cannot lay eggs due to the barrier.

2. Why do we observe growth of fungi in all setups after

several days of the experiment?

Within the second cell theory there is a high possibility

that the fungus is already present before the meat was

placed the fact that the jars were not properly sterilized

and the fungus might from the air in Jar A and B.

Activity 5: My Family Cell

 The Nucleus of the family is the grandfather, he is in

control of anything that happens within the house.

 The Cell Membrane is the grandmother, she controls what

comes in and out of the house. She must favor something

before it can arrive into the house.

 Mitochondria is the mother of the cell, she is the one who

cooks for the family providing the energy for the day.

 Endoplasmic reticulum is the father, he is connected with

grandfather and he overseer most of the house.

 Golgi apparatus is the same like uncle, he is the one

handling and distributing information inside the house.

 Ribosome is the son because he helps mother in the

preparation of energy and he is also attached to his father.

 Vacuole is the daughter since she is the one cleaning,

organize and storing the materials in the house.
