FILM REVIEW OF TAARE ZAMEEN PAR 2007

INTRODUCTION

Taare Zameen Par (transl. Stars on Land), also known as Like Stars on Earth in English,
is a 2007 Indian Hindi-language drama film produced and directed by Aamir Khan. The film
stars Khan himself, along with Darsheel Safary, Tanay Chheda, Sachet Engineer, Vipin Sharma
and Tisca Chopra. The film explores the life and imagination of Ishaan (Safary), an 8-year-old
dyslexic child. Although he excels in art, his poor academic performance leads his parents to
send him to a boarding school. Ishaan's new art teacher Nikumbh (Khan) suspects that he is
dyslexic and helps him to overcome his reading disorder.

SUMMARY OF THE STORY.

The movie is about an 8-year-old boy Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary) who finds it
difficult to match his world of colors, kites and animals to that of the others in his age group,
who are more into studies and homework. When complaints start to pour in, Ishaan’s parents
decide to set him off to a boarding school. His life is no different at the boarding school,
oppressed and insulted by his teachers, he remains the laugh stock of the class. Now that he is
away from home, he feels even more dejected, inferior and finds it tough to cope up with his
inabilities.Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) gets appointed as a temporary art teacher of the
boarding school. Unlike other teachers who follow definite norms in educating children, Ram
makes them think out of books, outside the four walls of the classroom and paint their
imaginations. Every child in class responds with immense enthusiasm except Ishaan. Ram takes
effort to understand Ishaan and his problems. He makes Ishaan’s parents and other teachers
realize that he is not abnormal but a very special child with talents of his own. With time,
patience and care Ram succeeds in boosting the confidence level of Ishaan. He helps Ishaan in
overcoming his inabilities and re-discover his lost confidence.

ANALYSIS OF THE PLOT.

Ishaan child labeled as lazy, mischievous, and an idiot. He excels in art and poor on
academic. He has a lovely family but his father is hard to accept him. Ishaan also bullied by
people around him. He is hard to learn. Ishaan always gets bad score, so his school decide to
drop him out. After receiving a particularly poor academic report, Ishaan’s parents send him to a
boarding school.
Ihsan always bullied by his teachers and his friends in the boarding school. It makes him so
depressed. There, he sinks into a state of fear and depression, despite being befriended by Rajan
who has physically disabled and one of the top students in his class. Ishaan gets worse in the
boarding school. He wants get his family back.
