1.0 SCOPE

This method statement defines the scope and system procedures that will be  adopted for fixing
ceramic tiles for floor for dry area.

2.0 REFERENCES

 DM Code of construction safety practice


 Provision of local order no. (3) of 1991on construction activities
Regulations, in the Emirates of Dubai.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

1. The Project Manager is overall responsible for the implementation of method


statement and ensures that his team of Engineers, surveyor and foreman are
aware of this method statement and all resources – human, material and
equipment’s are available to carry out the work as planned and without any delay.
The Project Engineer is responsible to carry out the work as per the approved
shop drawings, method statements, contract spec. and documents. Ensure job
sequence is done properly and within quality standards.
2. Construction Manager is responsible to plan the schedule of as-built surveys,
identify non-conforming i.e. out of tolerance structures and issue the report.
3. Project Engineer is responsible to ensure that all Safety precautions are in place,
and that all personal on site are using the required Personal Protective
Equipment’s like – Helmet, Gloves, Shoes, and Coveralls.
4. Coordinate with the Site Engineer and make sure sufficient manpower and
equipment are available for job execution.

4.0 RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS

5.0 METHOD & SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. Place warnings signs in a prominent location on the structure and ensure that they
can be seen and read easily.
2. Existing structures, equipment, and appurtenances that remain prior to work
commencement will be protected.
3. All safety measures will be provided in areas where tile installation shall be
performed and as directed by the Engineer.
4. Lights, barriers, and temporary passageways for free and safe access will be
provided and maintained.
5. Ceramic tiles once reached at site it shall be checked by Project Engineer to
ensure that the size and colour requirements are as per the approved
sample/mock-up.
6. Ceramic materials shall be temporarily stored to site store, once work for ceramic
tile installation will start it will then be transported to the desired area of work.
7. Existing services and utilities shall be checked and identified to ensure that it will
not be damaged and will retain in its existing position and location unless

otherwise instructed by the Client. Damaged services and utilities resulting from
the operation shall be replaced without additional cost to the Client. 
8. Before the commencement of works, the area will be cleaned from
any obstructions. 
9. Any MEP flooring works will be completed before tile installation 
10. The Engineer/client check and approval are required to proceed with tiling works. 
11. In case of using a mortar bed for tile fixing the Engineer shall approve the mix
ratios for cement, sand and water.
12. Start preparing a sand bed as per approved shop drawings to adjust the level
beneath the tiles. 
13. Ensure from the type, size and pattern of tiles as per approved materials and shop
drawings. 
14. Start tile fixing in each room with reference to the start point mentioned in the
approved shop drawings. Dry laying shall be performed prior to proceeding
further. 
15. Align accurately all the joints by using approved tile spacers as per approved shop
drawings. 
16. Fix properly skirting tiles as per approved shop drawings.
17. After the completion clean the tiles directly from any touched mortars. 
18. Tiles and skirting shall be so installed that the back is properly and thoroughly
filled with mortar bed/adhesives such that when it is checked by tapping it will not
produce a hollow sound. It shall also be properly laid and flat when checked with
5m straight edge, no gap of more than 5mm shall be seen within the straight edge
length.  
19. Fill all the joints of floor tiles and skirting by using approved grouting materials.
20. Tile pieces, debris and rubbish shall be accumulated in one area and to be
transported to the disposal area.
21. Tile installation works will be carried out promptly and expeditiously to minimize
dust and other inconveniences to others.
22. Noise levels will be restricted at reasonable times, as acceptable to the Engineer.
23. All rubbish, dirt and residues will be removed from the facilities in a manner that
minimizes the noise and spread of dust.
24. All waste products will be disposed of by licensed waste carrier.

All site personnel are briefed on emergency procedures and arrangements within their
safety induction. The daily attendance of all labor present at site will be taken. This is to
ensure that an accurate picture of who is present on site is always maintained and in
case of emergency all site based personal can be quickly accounted for.

 Ensure that supervisors clearly understand their responsibility and role in the site
emergency procedures.

 Designate first aid and provide medical supplies and other material and
equipment that may be required for emergency use.
 Determine emergency evacuation routes for work areas and construction site and
designate safe assembly areas.
 Ensure that all site personnel & visitors clearly understand emergency warning
siren signals used at site and the safe assembly areas.
 Designate a supervisor to conduct a head count and give instructions to evacuees
as necessary.
 Post emergency information for each work area on the site.

8.0 EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN

Well organized sketch plan as per approved site layout plan of offices, working site
areas, including as necessary.
 Location of fire extinguishers,
 Emergency telephone number display boards.
 Location of assembly points,
 Evacuation route plans.
 First aid room location. Location of trash containers/dust bins, scrap bins & skips.

9.0 WELFARE FACILITIES

 Toilet and washing facilities shall be provided before the commencement of work
and shall maintain as per DM standard.

 Food shall only be consumed in designated properly shaded areas agreed with
the prior approval.
 No food shall be consumed within the work areas
 All food wastes shall remove immediately, in a hygienic manner, and shall not be
allowed to accumulate.
 Drinking water (cool water in summer) will be made available at site all time.
 Resting area should be provided near the work area with adequate seating
arrangements and ventilation facility.

10.0 SANITATION AND HYGIENE MEASURES

In order to provide adequate sanitary conditions for all personnel at site, the following
provisions as part of the temporary facilities to be provided.

 Garbage disposal and regular collection.


 Sanitizing materials will be made available at the site.
