Happy Monday, Early Risers! It's Alicia Smith here...sharing this recent pic with my not-so-little
"Little Buddies!"

Max and Mischa always walk me to the door as I'm leaving for work. Okay, they're waiting for treats (which
I happily give them, of course). I can't believe my husband, Erik, and I have had them now for more than a
year! We adopted them from Michigan Humane in October of 2020. We're so grateful Michigan Humane
was able to rescue them and foster them.

SAVE THE DATE: Our Michigan Humane Day of Giving Telethon is this Thursday, February 10th! Can't
wait!

7 First Alert Meteorologist Kevin Jeanes said temperatures are going to be near average this week!
It's a welcome sign after the insane weather we had last week. Remember that snow and those cold
temperatures?

Today, we'll have a high of 32 degrees, and....some good news: The average temperatures are continuing
to rise throughout the month and THE DAYS ARE GETTING LONGER!

There will be multiple rounds of light snow showers throughout the week – quick ones from clipper
systems in Canada. They're weak and fast.

In Positively Detroit, our focus is shining a light on those positive stories that might go unseen throughout
metro Detroit. Yesterday, we spoke with a woman who is capturing the special moments between people
and their terminally-ill furry friends.

One of those families was the Wilson family and their 12-year-old Golden Retriever, Cooper. Cooper has a
maximum of nine months left to live after struggling with lung cancer.

Julia Earhart made sure to capture some special photos of the family with Cooper, helping the family
remember him long after he's gone. Check out the sweet moments in the video above.

It's Black History Month, and as we celebrate and honor Black history in metro Detroit and Michigan, we
wanted to highlight the importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Last week, our
own Jenn Schanz covered the reopening of Michigan's first and only HBCU – the Pensole Lewis College
of Business and Design.

She also talked with Latoya Turner, a local author who highlights their importance through a new children's
book.

Make sure you visit our Black History Month page. We'll be sharing stories of Black history throughout
February.
