Academic Integrity

1. In your own words, what is academic integrity?

Academic integrity means following the values of education. Practicing honesty in

academic work is an integral part of academic integrity. This means being fair,

transparent, and open to students, teachers, and the academic community. Academic

integrity means taking responsibility for learning and working under the conventions of

the learning process.

2. How might violation of academic integrity (plagiarism) impact:

a) You?

Plagiarism is a serious offense in any academic setting. Violating academic integrity can

result in my failing grades. Besides, I can get a formal complaint letter, which can affect

my scholarship. The worst is getting expelled with a negative recommendation.

b) The reputation of your program?

Plagiarism can affect the reputation and suspension of the program. My academic record

is likely to attract ethical offense. Plagiarism can also attract negative recommendations

and bar me from accessing any learning program in other institutions. This means my

program will be terminated for good.

c) The reputation of your school?

Violating academic integrity can affect the academic policies of an institution. The

institution will be forced to design strict educational policies to address new cases. The

consequences and severity of disciplinary actions are lengthy, which may affect an

institution's academic programs.

d) Graduates from your schools (when it is known that violations are allowed?)
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY 3

Cases of violating academic integrity can affect the employability prospects of the

graduates from the reported institution. When employers realize their employees

graduated from the mentioned institution, they can fire such graduates or make them

work under probation. The graduates' academic credentials will be put into question if

accusations of plagiarism are leveled against their former learning institution.

e) A potential employer?

A potential employer will doubt the academic credential of any candidate from an

institution accused of tolerating plagiarism. Employers want results and performance

from qualified employees. Suppose they sense that particular candidates scored the

grades from an institution accused of plagiarism. In such a case, they will assume the

same will happen in their organization if they hire students from the said institution.
