The music of East Asia, particularly Japan, China, and the Korea, are amongst the oldest artistic
traditions in the world. These three great countries are well-known for their interesting arts and cultures. Can
you imagine what traditional music is like in countries coming from this region? You must have heard some
eastern music as background music in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean movies or Tv soap operas.
This module is design for you to analyze the musical characteristics present in these countries. At the
end of this, you are expected to perform a given musical piece and answer the essential question “Explain the
common and distinct characteristics of the East Asian music.”

Music in these countries, have a very little concern in pitch. They do not show any variations that’s why it is
not an important elements in East Asian music.
Can you give a title of a song or drama which these chracteristics were used or heard? Do you think you would

Note: Chinese vocal music is usually described as high-pitched and nasal but there are regional differences
in the style of singing.
What can you say about the music of these countries? Is there a similarity in Philippine’s music? Maybe, you

Unit 1: Arts of East Asia


These countries have been noted for their numerous similarities and commonalities in their art
production, artistic traditions, and art principles as influenced by their history, beliefs, religion, location,
culture, and dynasty. Painting started from pre-historic man. They used red ochre and black pigment. Early
paintings often showed hunting scenes of a man chasing various animals, such as horses, rhinoceros, lions,
buffaloes, mammoths, landscapes, and anything about the environment. The history of Eastern painting is as
old as the civilization of China. It is historically comparable to Western painting. Eastern countries continued
to influence each other’s production of arts over the centuries. These are the common subjects /motifs/theme
in the painting of East Asia.
This module is design for you to analyze the artistic elements present in these countries. At the end of
this, you are expected to answer the essential question “Explain the common and distinct characteristics of the
East Asian arts.”

WEEK 3 (TRANSFER)
ACTIVITY 3: ORIGAMI MAKING: FOR THE BETTERMENT
In 2021, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the National Art Center, Tokyo, Mori Art Museum, and the
Korean Foundation Asia Center will host "SUNSHOWER: Contemporary Art from East Asia. Its objective is to
promote its art in the Philippines, since our country is a huge fan of different artforms coming from these countries.
In connection to this, the acting Mayor Bardon initiated the activity which titled ‘Origami: For the
Betterment’. It is associated to the law which prohibit the use of plastic materials around the municipality. Due
to this sudden change, sanitary paper bags become in demand. The participants must create and design their own
sanitary paper bag using the artistic elements found in East Asian Arts which will be auction at Labo Sports
Complex.

Direction: Create your own design of sanitary paper bag by means of origami. The design must follow the
elements found in East countries. Follow the instructions on the video provided in Scaffold for transfer 1.
Materials: Origami paper (if available) you can use any paper as long as its foldable.

Welcome to the last part of this module. This activity is designed for you to modify your own exercise program
based from the result of your physical assessment test. You can use the format that you have studied from Scaffold
2. Goodluck on your task.

Different sports league is being held on your municipality. However due to Covid19 this kind of gatherings were
limited. But as for suggestion of your SK Chairman, to lessen the effects of this pandemic to the mental health of
the youth. Sport’s feast will be conducted; however, athletes must undergo strict health protocol to be one of the
players for the upcoming event. And you, as the head of the of the said activity, you are going to create an activity
program based from the result of the physical assessment test of your team.

Direction: On a long bond paper. Modify the exercise program that we have studied from Scaffold 2. The type
of exercises and work load must be based on the result of your physical assessment test. You can add any type of
exercises as long as it can develop the agility, coordination and power. Make a 4-week exercise program for
yourself.

Dating
Definition- Going out with someone to eat or go to recreational places. This activity provides the two individuals
with opportunities to assess each other’s qualities that may be ideal for a partner.
Importance- It is done by the couple to determine compatibility. Compatibility predicts the success and happiness
of a marriage.
Courtship
Definition- It is a stage in which a man and a woman assess each other. This stage is a preparation for marriage
which is essential to a successful marriage.
Importance- This gives opportunity for both to determine if companionship and sustainability could be sustained
over a period of time without becoming boring or filled with conflict. It also allows the couple to lay down a
foundation for a well-planned marriage.
Marriage
Definition- is defined as the most committed male-female relationship. It is also a legal contract held together by
bonds or intimacy and sharing.
Importance- This gives opportunity for the two individuals to legally live with each other and share the rights and
responsibilities.

ACTIVITY 2: INGREDIENTS
Children- Bring happiness to the couple and their presence brings the atmosphere of completeness in the family.

especially for mixed marriages especially on deciding to what religion they will bring and raise their children.

Good housing- Living in your own house lessens the burden of budgeting your income. Instead of allotting a
sum money for the rentals, income may be used for the other needs for the family.

Adequate Income- Financial stability is a serious matter in marriage. It would be helpful if the family learn to
separate their needs from their wants.

Sharing Household chores- This may be simple but petty quarrels arise if nobody wants to do it. This may be
