Properties
Cublen D 5113 represents a weakly neutralized solution of the Diethylene triamine penta
(methylene phosphonic acid) in a highly concentrated form.

Cublen D 5113 is an outstanding scaling inhibitor and avoids the precipitation of hardly soluble
alkaline-earth salts (carbonates, sulphates) using even substoichiometric amounts of the
phosphonate. This behaviour is known as Threshold-effect, and DTPMP is one of the most
Threshold-effective compounds known in the phosphonate range. Compared to other common
types of phosphonic acids, the excellent precipitation inhibition of barium sulphate by DTPMP
should be emphasized.

The superior complexing behaviour towards transition and heavy metals makes Cublen D 5113
most suitable as stabilizing agent for hydrogen peroxide under neutral and alkaline conditions.
It multiplies the lifetime of hydrogenperoxide even in the presence of rather high concentrations of
manganese, copper and/or iron ions known to act as decomposing catalyst for H 2 O 2 .
Additionally,
it shows a corrosion inhibiting effect on both unalloyed and high grade steel.

According to the German BfR recommendation 36 for food applications Cublen D 5113 may be
used with respect to the maximum concentration cited therein.
