Rangkuman Materi Passive Voice

Passive voice is a type of sentence or clause in which the subject receives the action of the verb.”
Passive voice adalah jenis kalimat atau klausa di mana subjek menerima tindakan dari kata kerja.
Pada passive voice, subject kalimat tidak melakukan suatu tindakan/aksi melainkan subject
menerima tindakan.
Yang harus dipahami sebelum mempelajari lebih rinci dalam mengenal kalimat pasif (Passive Voice)
ada beberapa unsur yang harus diperhatikan, dianataranya:
1. Pronoun

2. Tobe

Am (I) Was ( I, he, she, it)
Are (You, We, They)

3. Verbs (Kata Kerja) / Perubahahan kata kerja dan penggunaannya.

 Note: Untuk penggunaan V1 (Simple Present) apabila kalimatnya menggunakan subject

Example :
- I sweep the floor
- He sweeps the floor
(disaat subject diganti menggunakan He maka kata kerja bentuk ke 1 (V1) harus
ditambahkan s/es)
Bentuk Passive Voice dalam beberapa Tenses
Rumus :

I. Simple Present Tense : S + Tobe (is, am, are) + V3

Example:

- They cook instant noodle (Active)

S + V1 + O

- Instant noodle is cooked by them (Pasive)

S + Tobe + V3 + O

Pay attention:
- Dalam merubah kalimat aktif menjadi kalimat pasif Posisi subject (S) berubah menjadi Object (O)
dan object menjadi Subject
- Ada penambahan penggunaan Tobe dalam kalimat passive
- Bentuk kata kerja dari V1 berubah menjadi V3
- Perubahan kata ganti (Pronoun) harus diperhatikan karena posisinya pun sudah berubah.

Contoh Soal
1. A committee chooses the winner.
The passive form of the sentences above is....
a. The winner is choosen by the committee
b. The winner are choosen by the committee
c. The winner was choosen by the committee
d. The winner were choosen by the committee
2. Rita : Wow...what a beautiful dress. You look so pretty Thalia
Thalia : Thank you Rita. I love it so much. My parents give it as my birthday gift.
Rita : Oh really? So that dress .................by your parents as the gift in yourbirthday?
Thalia : Yeach...that’s true.

 II. Present Continuous Tense : S + Tobe (is, am, are) + being + V3 

Example :

- We are studying English Subject (Active)

S + Tobe + V1(ing) + O
- English subject is being studied by us (Passive)
S + Tobe + being + V3 + O

Pay attention:
- Dalam merubah kalimat aktif menjadi kalimat pasif Posisi subject (S) berubah menjadi Object (O)
dan object menjadi Subject
- Ada penambahan penggunaan Tobe dalam kalimat passive
- Ada penambahan kata being karena tenses yang digunakan adalah present continous dimana kata
kerjanya dtambahkan “ing” dan being sebagai pengganti dari “ing” tersebut.
- Bentuk kata kerja dari V1(ing) berubah menjadi V3
- Perubahan kata ganti (Pronoun) harus diperhatikan karena posisinya pun sudah berubah.

Contoh Soal

1. Dina: Can I borrow your laptop?

Dita : Certainly, but what’s wrong with yours?

Dina: It …....... now.

a. Is being repaired
b. Repaired
c. Is repairing
d. Was reapiring
2. The students are reading magazine.

The passive form of the sentence above is...

a. Magazine is being read by the students

b. Magazine is read by the students
c. Magazine was being read by the students
d. Magazine are being read by the students

III. Simple Past Tense : S + Tobe in Past (was, were) + V3

Example :

- I ate meatball (active)

S + V2 + O

- Meatball was eaten by me (passive)

 S + Tobe + V3 + O

Pay attention:
- Dalam merubah kalimat aktif menjadi kalimat pasif Posisi subject (S) berubah menjadi Object (O)
dan object menjadi Subject
- Ada penambahan penggunaan Tobe dalam kalimat passive
- Bentuk kata kerja dari V2 berubah menjadi V3
- Perubahan kata ganti (Pronoun) harus diperhatikan karena posisinya pun sudah berubah.

Contoh Soal

1. We cooked fried rice

The passive form of the sentence above is....
a. Fried rice was cooked by us
b. Fried rice were cooked by us
c. Fried rice is cooked by us
d. Fried rice are cooked by us

NOTE

- Dalam setiap perubahan kalimat aktif ke dalam kalimat pasif (Passive voice), tenses apapun yang
digunakan selalu menggunakan kata kerja bentuk ke 3 (V3) atau disebut juga participle.
- Dalam kalimat pasif bisa menggunakan tambahan “by” diikuti oleh object, akan tetapi kata “by”
juga bisa juga dihilangkan “ommited” dalam penggunaan kalimat pasif di kondisi tertentu.
- Dalam mengubah kalimat aktif ke dalam kalimat pasif perhatikan baik-baik penggunaan Tobe
sesuai dengan tenses yang digunakan. Apabila tensesnya bentuk present maka gunakan Tobe
dalam bentuk present. Apabila tensesnya dalam bentuk Past maka gunakan Tobe dalam bentuk
Past juga.
