Coursework Structure/Instructions

Course Code and Title: ABDM3574 Entrepreneurship – 100% Coursework


Programmes : Diploma In Business Studies
(2DBU, DBF, DEC, DFI)
Semester : 3 Year 2
Academic Year : 2021/22

Mode of assessment:
1) Coursework 1 – Individual Assignment – 50% - 100 marks
2) Coursework 2 – Group Project/Assignment – 50% - 100 marks
Total = 100%

Note: Coursework, which total and convert to 100 marks, will comprise 100% of the total
course. Hence, there is no final examination.
Read and understand the following structure/instructions carefully, and prepare as
accordingly to complete the course.

Coursework 1: Individual Assignment – Presentation of Business Idea

1.) Objectives: To promote students’ understanding on the concepts and ideas relating
to entrepreneurship, especially in the beginning of the entrepreneurial process.
2.) This individual assessment is in the forms of presentation of business ideas
generated, via written introduction/explanation and video recording.
3.) Every student will be required to think, observe, and/or perform some researches or
findings in order to come out a business idea and to start this assessment.
a.) The proposed idea must be feasible, workable and realistic for starting an
entrepreneurial business.
i.) Students should examine whether the idea is of good opportunity and
has its quality to start a business.
b.) This step is required in order to proceed on to the next assignment as
mentioned above.
4.) Therefore, each student is expected to come out with an idea (by week 3) and which
should NOT be similar, repeated or duplicated with other students, especially
within the class.
a.) Hence, students should forward his/her idea to the tutor concerned, once the
idea is ready, and obtain approval before proceed on with the assignment.

b.) Students without proper approval from the tutor concerned shall not proceed
on the assignment as it would not be entertained or deemed unacceptable, at
later stage.
5.) Soon after the approval, students concerned shall proceed on to prepare and
complete this assignment, as follows:
a.) Prepare written explanation on the creation/generation of idea. This
explanation is as the introduction relating to the idea arise and should be of
length of approximately 100 words.
b.) Look into a proper and suitable video recording mode, medium or software
to prepare for presentation recording. For example, recording using Google
Meet, handphone, video camera, etc.
i.) The recorded video for submission must be in the form of MP4
format, so that it can be reviewed easily later on.
c.) Students should produce some slides or presentation materials/aids to show
and support the presentation. This helps in making more impressive,
convincing and clearer presentation to illustrate the idea.
i.) Students should bear in mind the proper ways or technique of
designing the slides so that the slides prepared are clear, attractive
and convincing of the business idea.
6.) Similarly, students are expected to be with proper attire. Besides, facial expression,
gestures, enthusiasm and etc. are essential to demonstrate the professionalism in
presenting.
a.) Hence, students should have some practices and preparation before
recording, as to have an interesting and attractive presentation.
7.) The recording shall NOT exceed 5 minutes. However, it should not be too short that
some important procedures and presentation manners are omitted.
a.) Besides showing how the idea is a good idea/opportunity, the importance of
quality of good opportunity shall be illustrated.
8.) To prepare a good recording and to gain better assessment, students should refer to
the criteria shown in the Assessment Form provided.
a.) Look at the assessment criteria (with marks allocated) and the requirement
expected.
9.) The due date of submission is at the end of Week 6 of the semester.
a.) The mode of submission is by returning the assignment to the Google
Classroom concerned, or by other online modes as agreeable and
informed prior by your tutor concerned.
b.) There will be at least 2 documents/items to be submitted, namely:
i.) Assessment Form (with the written explanation/introduction of idea
and assessment criteria).
ii.) Video recording on presentation (in MP4 format).
iii.) Please name your file for submission as follows, by example:
(Student name Danny Tan, ID is 2012345, from DBU and tutorial
class 5)

2. “ES-DBU5-Danny Tan-2012345-Video” – for (ii) above.
10.) Bear in mind that submission after the due day and time as mentioned, will be
considered as late submission and subject to penalty imposed by the Faculty.
a.) Penalty, such as:
i.) Late 1 to 3 days after deadline of submission: minus 10 marks.
ii.) Late 4 to 7 days after deadline of submission: minus 20 marks.
iii.) Late more than 7 days after the deadline of submission: 0 marks.
b.) Receiving date and time by the tutor concerned would be used as
confirmation and documentation, if necessary.

Coursework 2: Group Project/Assignment – Business Plan

1.) Objectives: To induce the students’ perception and mindset relating to


entrepreneurship.
2.) Project: Produce a Business Plan on a new product of an organisation.
3.) Formation: Students will work in teams of 5 persons per group or less under certain
situations. If necessary, the formation of team will be done by the tutor concerned
and this formation decision made will be FINAL.
4.) Each team/group will “form an organisation” to set-up or start the business with the
new product created.
a.) This new product (goods or service) should be the one chosen among the
ideas generated earlier by each team members as in CW1.
i.) Hence, each team should discuss among themselves so that to select
one that they feel “best” and proceed to this CW2 (Business Plan).
ii.) Due to time constraint, students should decide and finalise on their
own and proceed, without waiting for the results on CW1. However,
the idea/opportunity that has been chosen must be one of the ideas
presented by the team in CW1.
5.) In producing the Business Plan, students should bear in mind that the accordance to
standard business plan is expected.
a.) Several and active discussion among team members during the preparation
process is expected. Everyone is expected to work closely and be pro-active.
i.) Hence, any free-rider or one found inactive will be disbanded from
the team and assigned to prepare and submit as solo.
6.) As a general guideline, Business Plan (which is a project and a formal document)
shall contain the relevant information/sections and in a proper sequence/order as
follows:
a.) Cover page – this should show the relevant particulars of the document.

i.) Other information such as Faculty, Programme, Course, Product
name, Organisation name, Team members, Date of submission,
Plagiarism %, Word counts, etc.
b.) Evaluation Form – Project Form, (as attached herewith).
i.) Students are required to fill up their particulars on this Form.
c.) Plagiarism statement (which should be filled up and signed by each member
concerned).
i.) Without this statement signed and attached, 50% of marks earned
will be deducted.
d.) Table of contents (with document paging).
e.) Contents of the business plan, such as:
i.) Executive Summary;
ii.) Venture team or Company description;
iii.) Business idea relating to this venture;
iv.) Business opportunity analysis;
v.) Business model of the venture;
vi.) Marketing plan on the business;
vii.) Product design and development of the business model;
viii.) Financial Assumptions;
ix.) Pro-forma Financial Statement.
f.) References used in the preparation.
i.) Referencing format should be consistent with TAR UC’s
Referencing format.
g.) Appendices that support the write-up/assignment.
i.) They can be in the forms of diagrams, pictures, charts/graphs,
detailed explanation, etc.
7.) For further understanding and details, refer to the assessment criteria shown in the
Evaluation Form attached.
8.) This document should be of Times New Roman font and font size 12 with 1.5 line
spacing. Normal page margin on A4 paper and proper paging and alignment are
expected.
9.) Length of plan (contents only) should be limited to 5000 words, with
completeness and details of the write-up.
a.) This Word Counts should be shown on the Cover page
10.) Plagiarism % of the Business Plan (contents only) should NOT exceed 15% from
the relevant TAR UC’s checking (Turnitin check).
a.) Otherwise, the assignment will be graded as FAIL.
b.) Assignment which is found to be plagiarised from another person's work
will be given a 0 (zero) mark.
c.) The Plagiarism % should be shown on the Cover page

11.) The due date of submission is at the end of Week 11 of the semester.
a.) The mode of submission is by returning the assignment to the Google
Classroom concerned, or by other online modes as agreeable and
informed prior by your tutor concerned.
12.) There will be at least 2 documents/items to be submitted, namely:
i.) Business Plan (in Word format and in soft copy), and
ii.) Plagiarism Checking Report of the Business Plan (Turnitin – in full
report and in PDF format) in the form of softcopy.
iii.) Please name your file for submission as follows, by example: (Team
leader name Danny Tan, from DBU and tutorial class 5)
1. “ES-DBU5-Danny Tan-CW2-Plan” – for (i) above.
2. “ES-DBU5-Danny Tan-Turnitin” – for (ii) above.
iv.) Other documents, if any (if required and related for assignment),
such as:
1. Financial information and analysis in Excel Format (that is
used to draft and prepare for the Pro-forma Financial
Statement), then:
“ES-DBU5-Danny Tan-Financial” – (in Excel format).
13.) Bear in mind that submission of your Business Plan after the due day and time as
mentioned, will be considered as late submission and subject to penalty imposed by
the Faculty.
a.) Penalty such as:
