1. Do the contributions and works of the artist have a great effect in
recognizing him/her as National Artist? Why?
Yes, because the same as players, artist also need to have
achievements. Some artists are recognized by that title because they
bring pride to their nations and considered as a living asset. In
addition, they are artists who are world know and their art pieces are
displayed into different museums around the world and the pieces
are sold and bought with such amusing amount of money.

2. Choose one artist that you know who deserve to be awarded/recognized as


National Artist of the Philippines, and why?
Filipino artists who have made significant contributions to the cultural
heritage of the country. Filipino artistic accomplishment at its highest
level and to promote creative expression as significant to the
development of a national cultural identity.

A national artist refers to a person who has been given high recognition for
having made significant contributions towards the development of national
arts in regard to music, theatre, literature, film, visual arts and other allied
arts.  Italian artists are professional artists who have mastered all the themes
of fine arts and are Italians by virtual of either working or living in Italy.

The National Artist Award is one of the prestigious awards given to people
who are considered as national artists for their contribution in the different
field of arts. It is the highest state of recognition given to Filipino artists.

National Artists are acknowledged by their titles whenever they are in a public
function. They are treated with the same respect as a high-ranking official of
the country. So that’s just some of the things that make a National Artist
important apart from their body of work which should have a significant impact
on Filipinos. Here are some of the Philippines National Artist and their
contribution:

Fernando Amorsolo (1892-1972) was known as the 'Grand Old Man of


Philippine Art'. His colorful depictions of the local population reflect the
radiance of the Philippine sun thanks to the Spanish-trained realist's
backlighting technique. Despite deteriorating health and failing eyesight, he
remain prolific until the end

José Joya (1931-1995) is Filipino pioneer of Abstract expressionism. Multi-


media painter uses bold and vibrant colors with a variety of painting
techniques. His mastery lies in gestural paintings where the paint is applied
spontaneously on canvas, sometimes directly out of the tube.ned prolific until
the very end.

Pacita Abad (1946-2004) was an internationally revered Filipino artist. Her


paintings consist of vibrant colors and a constant change of patterns and
materials. Pacita created a unique technique called 'trapunto' where she
stitches and stuffs her canvases with a wide range of materials.

Benedicto Cabrera is the best-selling commercial painter of his generation. He


studied under José Joya at the University of the Philippines and received his
degree in Fine Arts in 1963. His paintings, etchings, sketches, and prints have
been exhibited across Asia, Europe, and the US.

Ang Kiukok is the pioneer of Philippine modern figurative expressionism.


Rewarded as the country's National Artist in 2001, he was one of the most
successful commercial figures on the local art scene. Known for his distinct
cubist and surrealist portrayals of the crucifixion of Christ and mother and
child.
