Telaga Warna (Lake of Colors)

Long time ago, there was a kingdom in West Java called Kutatanggeuhan. This Kingdom
is ruled by a wise king. The people used to call the leader of the kingdom as King Suwartalaya.
Although successfully ruled the kingdom with justice, the King has a problem that made
him restless. He does not have a child who will inherit his kingdom. Finally, the king decided to
be imprisoned in the forest to invoke the Almighty God’s guide. "My Queen, we've been
married for a long time but we haven’t been given a child. I would be imprisoned in the forest
for some time to seek guidance from the Almighty." said the king to the queen. "Well My King, I
will always pray for the best for you." said Purbamanah, the queen.
After the king was imprisoned for some time, finally the queen was pregnant as a sign
that the Almighty heard the King. Kutatanggeuhan people was glad to hear this good news.
Later, after nine months pregnant, finally the queen gave birth to a very beautiful girl. They
named her Princess Gilang Rukmini. Of course, the King was very fond of the long-awaited
daughter's presence. Kutatanggeuhan people came to the palace and gave gifts to welcome
their princess.
Over time, the king's daughter was growing up. It has now turned into a very beautiful
girl at the age of 17 years. But unfortunately she had a bad habit, which is too spoiled. It’s
caused by excessive affection from both parents. To celebrate the 17th birthday of his
daughter, the King held a very lively party. The people came to the palace, bring gifts to be
given to the princess. But the wise King actually collect these gifts to be used for the benefit of
its people. Of course this made the princess became very angry. "Why did father took my
presents!" said the princess angrily. "Be patience my beloved daughter. Father will use these
gifts for the benefit of our people. I promise to replace it with a better gift." said The King
gently. "What better gift it is? Where is it? I want it now!" the princess sulk. "Be patience my
beloved daughter. Just wait for a few days."
The King said. The King then contact the best jewelery maker in the kingdom. He asked
him to make the best jewelry ever. A few days later, the jewelry was finally created. A very
beautiful necklace and it’s very colorful. The King immediately give the necklace to his beloved
daughter. "This is a gift that father promised you, my beloved daughter. A very colorful
necklace created by the best jewelers in this kingdom with the best materials." The King gave
the princess the necklace. "What is this? I don’t like it!" said the princess as she threw the
necklace to the palace courtyard. Seeing her daughter’s behavior, Queen Purbamanah cried.
The people in the palace was very surprised. The King could only hold his breath, seeing her
daughter's behavior.
 Suddenly there was a strange occurrence. In the courtyard of the palace appeared a
spring. The spring continued to emit water until inundate the entire courtyard. Initially, it’s only
formed a small pond. But eventually it formed a large lake in the palace. The King then ordered
to created a new palace because the old palace has been submerged by water. The lake has
colors that are very beautiful. It said that the color comes from the color of the princess’s
necklace that drowned at the bottom of the lake. Society eventually gave the name of the lake
as Telaga Warna.
