What I have learned

IMPORTANT POINTS TO PONDER

Direction: Complete the statements below:
I learned that Philosophy is about answering questions. It is defined as love of wisdom because
it came from two Greek words philos (love) and Sophia (wisdom). The birthplace of philosophy
is Greece. I also learned the different branches of philosophy. In addition, Philosophy as a
science is also a systematized body of knowledge but unlike other sciences which employs
observation and experimentation to prove their theories, philosophy uses reason to arrive at a
certain knowledge or truth. Lastly, I learned that Philosophy was born because of ignorance.
I feel that Philosophy is important because it helps us make better decisions by developing our
critical thinking. It will help us to analyze concepts, definitions, arguments, and problems. It
contributes to our capacity to organize ideas and issues, to deal with questions of value, and to
extract what is essential from masses of information. Philosophy addresses the normative issues
in more profound manner of human understanding. It is a critical inquiry into the understanding
of reality by reflecting and investigating the problems of human existence, in areas of justice,
happiness, truth, God, beauty, death, good and evil, morality etc. I also feel that philosophy is
important because by studying philosophy, people can clarify what they believe and they can be
stimulated to think about ultimate questions. Philosophy is an overall vision or attitude toward
life and the purpose of it. Without a personal philosophy, we end up living without direction.
