Green Revolution (Pakistan)

Agriculture is the most highlighting sector in most of the developing countries.Green

Revolution is related to the idea of new agricultural Revolution. It was started with the
introduction of HYV of wheat by Dr. Borlaug in 1950. He was of the view that man should
not all depend on the nature for agricultural although the result is in the hands of God but
the man can make efforts and use his brain to make the agriculture activities more easy
and efficient.

During the late 60’s , Asian and South East Asian countries made extraordinary
achievements in the agricultural sector. Especially in Pakistan, India, Philippine and Sri
Lanka etc. Due to which these Countries became self sufficient in the production of wheat,
rice and maize and not only sufficient for the nation but also started exporting them. In this
Revolution new inventions and innovations take place in a form of fertilisers, high quality
seeds , pesticides, use of machineries like tractors , harvesters and use the excessive
amount of water and lastly also the the new methods and techniques. These all inventions
and innovations are the basic requirement of the new agricultural products to bring them
to the certain standards.

Because of Green Revolution we are also producing quality yield seeds , fertilisers and
pesticides and they are available for production of agricultural products. As a result our
production function is increased. Since that our per acre will also increase.

In Pakistan, 67.5% of population is living in the rural areas and around 42% of people are
engaged with agriculture and around 23% of GDP also depend on this sector. So the need
of green Revolution is necessary for the future development of Pakistan.

Need For Green Revolution in Pakistan:

 Increase in population
 Limited Domestic Sectors
 Reduction in foreign dependence
 Agriculture Surplus
 Stability in agriculture. Output and prices
 Cultural Revolution
 Income Distribution

Pakistan’s population is increasing day by day . As a result per capita income should also
increase but it’s not happening because Pakistan economy’s major part agricultural sector
is not efficiently working so the need of this GR is becoming a highly necessary. Also if we
make progress in this Revolution the Pakistan wouldn’t be dependent on the import of any
agricultural product. Which in result balance our balance of payment. Also by green
Revolution the country will stable in the prices of the commodities and the inflation rate
will be stable. Another advantage of Green Revolution is this that when the agricultural
activities bring to the international market and technology and techniques are introduce
the more new generation will take interest in this development sector. Young minds will
also flourish this sector the economy will get it optimism and the country will progress.
Indeed,Green Revolution is the life guard of agriculture and we cannot deny from this fact.
