10 INSTRUMENTS AND GADGETS UTILIZED IN ELECTRICAL ENINEERING PROFESSION;

USES AND FUNCTIONS

1. Wire Stripper
It is a hand-held tool also known as cable strippers. It is a self-adjusting wire-stripper. It is designed
to strip the insulation of the wire.

2. Digital Voltmeters (DVM)

It is an instrument used to measure the electrical potential difference between two points in a
circuit. The voltage could be an alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC). It measures the
input voltage after converting the analog voltage to digital voltage and displays it in number
format using a convertor. DVMs are general instruments for electrical engineers that are used in
laboratories and in the field.
3. Electric drill
It is a drill which is driven by an electric motor. This device is used to drill holes in metal sheets
and concrete walls, they can be used to make holes in building structures for the passage of wires
and conduit. They can be useful for indoor and outdoor wiring.

4. Dies and Taps

Tapping refers to cutting of threads in required sized hole. The tool used for this purpose is known
as tap. Die, on the other hand, is another tool that assists in cutting threads into blank rods for
formation of threaded shafts. Dies are also useful in repairs of damaged bolt threads. A tap and
die can come handy any moment.
5. Multi-meter
A multimeter is a measuring instrument that can measure multiple electrical properties. It can be
used to measure voltage, current, resistance, and capacitance, conductance, a frequency so this
instrument could measure almost all things which is needed for an electrician. This meter can
show the exact reading too. There are digital and analog multimeters are available in the market.

6. Circuit Breaker
It is an automatically operated electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from
damage caused by excess current from an overload or short circuitThe circuit breaker is an
equipment which automatically cut off power supply of the system when any fault or short
circuit occurs in the system. It detect and isolate faults within a fraction of a second thereby
minimizing the damage at the point where the fault has occurred.
7. Tweezers
These are small tools used for picking up objects too small to be easily handled with the
human fingers. The tool is most likely derived from tongs, pincers, or scissors-like pliers used to
grab or hold hot objects since the dawn of recorded history. In a scientific or medical context they
are normally referred to as forceps.

8. Crimping Tools
A crimp tool is a tool that is used to join or connect two pieces of material by using compression
to form a connecting bond. This type of hand tool is set to the desired pressure needed to
effectively join two subjects together for a secure seal that allows a connection is made
9. Pliers
Pliers are hand-operated tool for holding and gripping small articles or for bending and
cutting wire.

10. Tape Measures

A standard tape measure is used for all kinds of field measurements, such as setting heights for
switches and outlets, centering lighting fixture boxes, and marking surfaces for cutouts.
