TASK 2: Research and study Fernando Amorsolo’s painting “Palay Maiden” (1920) and
Leonardo Da Vinci’s “La Gioconda” (1517).

1. What do these paintings share in common?

The two masterpieces are both created having its own meaning and was painted by the
artists with feelings. The subjects are both women, used Feminism approach in making the art
showing culture and personality the subject want to portray.
2. What makes the Palay Maiden truly Filipino?
It was the way the lady projecting her smile shows the simplicity and beauty of being
a Filipino woman. Their genuine happiness truly represents how Filipino people always
seeing at the brighter side of life regardless from the difficulties and challenges we encounter.
The overall aura of the art is visual appealing and as a Filipino, I can feel the story and
emotions by just seeing it.

3. How differently did Amorsolo treat the subject (Palay Maiden)?

Amorsolo showed diligent and hardworking a Filipino woman is. Helping in planting
and harvesting palay as source of income and food. It is also showed that agricultural practice
of the country – Philippines, which then sustain the needs of the fellow men.

TASK 4: Philippine Contemporary Arts Brochure - Create a brochure that shows at least
ten (10) of the different contemporary art forms found in your community. Each art form
should have a picture and a caption explaining the work. The use of indigenous and recycled
materials is encouraged.

TASK 5: ArtSikat - As an aspiring contemporary artist, create an artwork in any form
(literary art, visual art, media art, culinary art, performance art - video recording, collage,
assemblage, mobile, installation art – photography/print) that you feel is in tune with the
current situation of Philippine society. Be guided by the definition and description of
contemporary art. Your artwork will be seen by the general public.
