CULTURAL HERITAGE - BIHAR
● Bihar has a rich cultural heritage, it’s the land of Buddhism and
Jainism. Bihar is known as “The Land of Buddha” where Gautam
Buddha attained enlightenment at Bodh Gaya.

● Bihar is a state with the culturally most mixed population. We


have Hindus, Muslims, Jain, Buddhists, Sikhs, Christians living
here. Bihar has a rich cultural background to be proud of it is
associated with ‘Samudra Manthan’ of the Vedic era, Sita of
Rama, and Karna of Mahabharata. People are shy, honest,
helping, and confident of themselves.

BIHAR – FESTIVAL
● People of Bihar celebrate festivals
and religious events with great
happiness and love. The main
festival of Bihar is Chhath Puja,
where the sun god is worshipped.
While other festivals like Sama-
Chakeva, Ramnavami, Makar-
Sankranti, Bihula, Madhushravani,
Teej, Pitrapaksha Mela, Sonepur
fair, and Shravani Mela are
celebrated with great enthusiasm.

BIHAR – CUISINE
● The cuisines for people of Bihar are both
vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Non-
vegetarianism is still less due to Buddhism
and Jainism beliefs, as Buddhism and
Jainism promote vegetarianism. Roti,
Daal, Sabji are the basic food of Biharis.

● People of Bihar are fond of eating Litti


Choka, some of the popular Bihari dishes
are Bihari Kebab, Litti-Chokha, Bihari Boti,
Bihari Chicken Masala, Sattu Paratha,
Chokha, and fish curry.

BIHAR – COSTUMES
● The traditional dress of the Bihari people
is dhoti-kurta for men and saree for
women. The effect of western wear has
affected a lot of people in Bihar and
people wear western shirts and trousers.
Western wear is getting popular not only
among urban people but also among the
rural male population.
● Salwar kamee is the main dress for
women of urban Bihar and women wear
saree in the “Seedha Aanchal” style
traditionally. Tussar Silk saree is the most
used in Bihari costumes.

MIZORAM – FESTIVAL
● The festivals of Mizoram are grand and
full of joy. And together represent the
cultural heritage of Mizo. Festivals are
celebrated here with great enthusiasm
and grandeur.
● In Mizoram, some festival is celebrated
throughout the year. The tribes living here
have their own festivals. Some of the
major festivals of Mizoram, some major
festivals like Chapchar Kut, Mim Kut, and
Pal Koot are celebrated here.

TRIPURA– FESTIVAL
● The number of Hindus in Tripura is about
84 percent. Durgapuja is the main festival
here. Kharchi Puja is one of the most
popular festivals in Tripura.
● Festivals like Durga Puja, Navaratri,
Vijayadashami, Dol Jatra (Holi), Pous
Sankranti, Ashokashtmi, and Diwali are
the most celebrated festivals
● The two major annual festivals are Gadiya
(April) and Kas (June or July), in which
animal sacrifices are made

MIZORAM – CUISINE
● The food of Mizoram can be seen as a
mixture of North Indian and Chinese
ingredients. The combination of these two
makes the food taste unique here. People
of Mizoram use mostly non-vegetarian in
their food.
● Food is usually served here on banana
leaves, which is the culture of this place.
● The main dishes of Mizoram are Bai
which is a combination of several herbs
cooked with string beans and edible ferns.

TRIPURA – CUISINE
● Fish is a common component in the diet of
people of Tripura, especially among the
tribals. As the North East is blessed with
natural resources and water, small fish are
easily available in the streams around the
village.
● Godok and Eggu are made with turmeric
leaves as an important ingredient.
Turmeric acts as a seasoning for the
dishes and adds fragrance to them. These
turmeric plants are homegrown and are
also used to worship gods besides
cooking.

● The original garment of the Mizos is
known as puan (Puwaan) meaning cloth
in the Mizo language is used both by men
and women more or less in the same
fashion. Puan, apron-like clothing in the
shape of a rectangle, is the most
important among traditional wears in
Mizoram.
● Mizo men drape themselves in an almost
7 feet long and 5 wide cloth-piece.

TRIPURA– COSTUMES
● Risa, Rignai, and Rikutu are the traditional
costumes of Tripura, which feature vibrant
artistry in fabric. ‘Rignai’ which is a very
long and broad piece of cloth draped
around the waist and which reaches the
knees. A comparatively short cloth called
‘Risa’ is for the upper body which contains
beautiful embroidery. Every clan in Tripura
has its version of rignai in terms of design
and patterns. Risa is worn by the bride
during her wedding ceremony religious
festivals are celebrated by the people of
different religions.

● Bihar has a lot of contributions to Indian classical music. It has
produced musicians like Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan and
dhrupad singers like the Malliks and the Mishras along with poets
like Vidyapati Thakur who contributed to Maithili Music. Classical
music in Bihar is a form of Hindustani classical music.

● Chhau dance is very popular among tribal people, Bidesia is a


very popular folk dance of Bihar and is more prevalent in the
Bhojpuri-speaking regions of Bihar. Jat-Jatin is popular in north
Bihar, Jijya is also one of the eminent dances of Bihar.

● The Mizo society has been quite famous for its traditional folk dances.
These dances have always been a part of the festivals and celebrations
of Mizoram. Cheraw, one of the three most important dances of
Mizoram, Chonglaizon, and Khoalalam dances are one of the most
prominent dances of Mizoram.
● The Cheraw dance is the most famous dance of the Mizo tribes. Long
bamboos are used in this dance. Apart from this, Chero dance is also
called Bamboo dance or Bambu dance. These dances are performed in
groups of four people. In which men dance with women. Men hold these
bamboos and women are dancing inside it. Women dance to the beat of
the drum playing outside.

● Chonglaizon dance is performed mainly by the people of the Lai
or Pawai tribe. This is a very special kind of dance. During this
dance, men and women dance by wearing a traditional Puan or
colorful shawl. The belief behind this dance is that it is performed
on both occasions of happiness and sorrow.
● Khoallam dance is a dance of the guests. People are invited to
this dance. Apart – People from different villages also take part in
this dance. Here khoal means – guest and lam mean dance.
Apart from this, there are other folk dances in Mizoram like
Saulkin, Solakai, Chailam, and Paralam, which are organized
from time to time.

● Music and dance are important parts of any culture. An instrument
called Sumui is used here, which looks like a bansuri. People here use
Kham which is also called Dhol. Here the Hosagiri dance of the ring
people is very famous and in that dance, the girl dances on the pot.
Many types of dances are found in this state such as the Lebang dance
of the Tripuri people, the Biju dance of the Chakma people, the Vangla
dance of the Garo people, the Hahaka dance of the Halam Kuki logo
and the Ova dance of the Mog logo.
