Write a report based on the following topic:
Challenges associated with the use of the Sustainable Materials for Construction Industry
in Caribbean Environment and Suggested Recommendations for Overcoming the
Challenges”
The submission should touch upon the following points given (but not limited to). Also you need
to make group presentation on November 10th in the class. Time for each group presentation will
be 15 minutes followed by 5-10 mins question answers for each group. It will start at beginning
of class.
Submit a report (group) by November 9th, 2021 by 5 PM..
The main points to be covered are
1. Introduction including historical applications of Sustainable Materials in Construction
Industry (10 marks)
2. Make a feasibility study for the sustainable materials selected from the following categories
of materials: Metallic, Ceramic, polymeric and composite material. Briefly discuss the
Influence of Bond Type on Properties of the materials. (30 Marks)
3. Discuss briefly the life cycle of the material selected. Attention of the Carbon footprint and Embodied
energy. (30 Marks)
4. Identify the challenges in terms of lack of codes, or standards or culture or cost or
availability (10 marks)
5. Make conclusion and recommendations/suggestions for overcoming the obstacles (10 marks)
6. Citations and References (10 marks)
The report should have original analysis based on the facts you gather upon reading, not just
reproducing the information. Don’t wait until the topics are covered in the class, you can access
the reading materials from myeLearning and read them. The most important is that you should
read journal, conference articles, books, govt, or other agency documents or any other relevant
documents from other published sources (use UWI linc from our library). I also recommend you
to speak with experts from local industry or clients or interview them to get practical
information. You may also cite this in your report.
Use Times New Roman 12 font with 1 inch margin and 1.5 line spacing. Use headlines,
subheadlines of your own choice. Page limit is 20 (plus / minus 2) excluding cover page and
appendix. Tables and Figures from other source can be used with proper citation (Chicago style).
Submit as a MS word file. Upload the ppt after you made presentation on November 9, 2021.
