NON- FINITE VERB FORMS

1. Go= short infinitive You can go now.


To go= long infinitive I want to go home.

Going= present participle/ gerund - noun: Going there is forbidden. Smoking is not good

- Vb BE+VB-ING= CONTINUOUS ASPECT (action in
progress)

Go = present simple They go home by bus every day.

2. Went= past simple We went home after the meeting.


3. Gone= past participle - adj (! PASSIVE) I am interested in this story.

! Be+vb3= passive voice: My bike was stolen.

! Have+vb3= perfect (anterior) We have met before.

Vb+ vb-ing

- Like/ dislike*: I hate being interrupted.


- Remember/ forget*: I remember seeing you before.
- Start-continue- stop* (go on; keep): Stop talking!
- Admit/ deny: He denied being involved.
- Suggest: They suggested going for a walk.
- Mind: Would you mind waiting here?
- Avoid; risk; imagine: You risk falling if you stand so close to the edge.
- Try*: Try phoning the office.
