In Madrid on
07/03/2015 there has
Cómic been an earthquake
that luckily there have
been no injuries

In Barcelona on
07/03/2015 there was a
tsunami, luckily the
authorities and
emergencies already knew
about this event and

In Bilbao today
07/03/2015 a
volcano erupted
without waiting and
there have been 35
deaths so far.

Already presented, we
are all going to explain
why these things
happen.

Earthquakes are very frequent geological phenomena on

our planet, they occur 2,600 a day, two every minute
1. When a plate sinks under another in the ocean,
tsunamis are originated, however when they separate
they produce smaller and shallower tsunamis
2. When two plates collide or one is placed on top of the
other they produce earthquakes if it is on the ground
3. Another zone of great earthquakes is where one plate
sinks under the other on the edge of a continent, as in
Andés there are also volcanoes, but this time on the
continent

WHERE AND HOW?

The tectonic plates do not stop moving at their edges,
the rocks have to withstand pressures, until they do not
hold any more and break when this process happens,
releases enormous energy that leads to the surface

Types of failures
Normal failure the crust separates into two parts that
move away from each other
FaLlas in the direction of the ground, it slides laterally
with respect to the other fault

How to survive an earthquake?

On the street
1. Get under a table or something that covers you, if
there is something around you, stand on the wall
covering your head with your arms
2. Hold on so that the force of the earthquake does not
move you and cause injury
At home
1. Get under the bed and put a blanket over your head
2. Hold on to the legs of the bed
When does it happen at sea?
It is when a tsunami originates, it means one plate is
introduced under the other, that they slide like that is
not very easy, the roughness of the surface and the
priction makes it not possible to slide easily.
For years this movement can be blocked, which causes
the energy to accumulate and end up bending the
plates, when it reaches its limit the plate slides until it
regains its shape, and pushes the water which produces
big waves.
After an earthquake and tsunami?

You have to look around to see if the place is safe,

slowly leave the place where you were safe, stay away
from windows and furniture, and wait for time to pass
