CALCULATION 5.3 : BOTTOM AND ANNULAR PLATE THICKNESS

BOTTOM PLATE THICKNESS CALCULATION

tsbot = Thickness of the bottom shell course

= 10 mm
tt = The required hydrostatic test shell plate thickness of the bottom shell course
= 1.86 mm
td = The required design shell plate thickness of the bottom shell course
= 5.07 mm
tsbotc = Thickness of the bottom shell course(corroded)
= 7.000 mm
CASB = Corrosion allowance for shell bottom most course
= 3.000 mm

Product (design) stress in first shell course

Hydrostatic test stress in first shell course

= [ tt / tsbot ] x ( St 1)
= 28.655 MPa < 171.000 MPa API 650 Cl. No. 5.5.1
ANNULAR PLATE NOT REQUIRED

If Annular Plate is Applicable as per above condition, Check for Requirement of Elastic Analysis
to Calculate Thickness of Annular Plate as per below;
API 650 Cl. No. 5.5.3
H x G1 <= 23 m = 7.043 m <= 23 Elastic Analysis is not Required

H x G1 is not greater than 23 m. Hence Elastic Analysis is not required for Annular Plate.

However, Annular Plate is provided as per Cl. No. 5M.2.4.4 of Tender.

Bottom Plate Thickness

All bottom plates shall have a corroded thickness of not less than 6 mm. API 650 Cl. No. 5.4.1

Therefore, thickness of Bottom plate

tb = 6 + CAb
= 9 mm
Where:
CAb = Corrosion allowance for bottom plate

Provided thickness for bottom/sketch plate = 10 mm

Annular Plate Thickness

The thickness of the annular bottom plates shall not be less than the greater thickness determined
using Table 5.1a and Table 5.1b for product design (plus any specified corrosion allowance) or for
hydrostatic test design. API 650 Cl. No. 5.5.3
Therefore, thickness of Annular plate
tba = 6 + CAb
= 9 mm
Where:
CAb = Corrosion allowance for bottom plate

Provided thickness for annular bottom plate = 0 mm

Annular plate width

The minimum radial width of the annular plate at any point around the circumference of
the tank shall be either Aw1 or Aw2 or Aw3, whichever is greater

Aw1 = Wanr + tsbot + Aproj + Alap

= 0 mm
Where,
Wanr = Minimum radial width between the inside of the shell and any
lap-welded joint in the bottom
= 600 mm API 650 Cl. No.5.1.5.4.3
tsbot = Thickness of the bottom shell course
= 10 mm
Aproj = Min. projection of annular plate outside the shell
= 80 mm Tender Cl. No. 5M.2.4.4
Alap = Annular-sketch lap
= 25 mm API 650 Cl. No. 5.1.3.5

Aw2 = 215 x tba / (HG1)0.5 API 650 Cl. No. 5.5.2

= 0.000 mm

tba = Thickness of the annular plate, in mm;

= 0 mm
H = Maximum design liquid level, in m;
= 7.1 m
G1 = Design specific gravity of product
= 0.992

Aw3 = 0.035 x D API 650 Cl. No. 5.11.2.3 & Eq. E.6.2.1.1.2-1a
= 301.000 mm

Therefore the minimum radial width of annular plate at any point around the tank shell is
Aw = Min (Max ( AW1, AW2), AW3)
