Marketing Ethics

Part 1

Example 1

During the World Cup, Mastercard said it would contribute 10,000 meals to children in Latin

America and the Caribbean for every goal Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr scored.

People chastised the strategy of gamifying hunger, and it drew criticism from marketing and

public relations professionals for its tone-deaf attitude.

Mastercard eventually withdrew the campaign, which was fortunate given that the two stars

combined for only three goals.

Example 2

The odds of inexperienced users winning on DraftKings and FanDuel were overstated.

At the core of the accusations was that both firms exaggerated the possibilities casual and

inexperienced players had of winning cash prizes and the potential to make good returns on their

entrance fees. It arose out of an examination that demonstrated professional and high-volume

gamers employed automated computer scripts and advanced statistical game theory to obtain

enormous payoffs.

Example 3

The commercial of Demitage shows their product and compares the differences between

a beautiful face and a wrinkled face. However, this is a false advertising because the sentence

they used “Less wrinkles in only minutes” makes the product unreal. It is impossible. It is

inaccurate and may cause consumers to be misled. For elderly women, this also may be

offensive.

Part 2

H&M, a clothing company, is devoted to openness in its supply chain. On their website,

they provide a list of 98.5 percent of their suppliers' names and addresses, which they renew

quarterly. This guarantees that they can be held publicly accountable for their suppliers' actions,

and that anybody may check if their suppliers are adhering to the company's requirements.

H&M has a responsible sourcing objective of utilising only 100 percent recycled or sustainably

sourced materials by 2030, in addition to publishing its supply chain information. As a result,

H&M is a trailblazer as well as an ethical leader in the apparel industry.

Many people consider the fashion company to be problematic in terms of ethical and sustainable

sourcing. If a major clothes store, such as H&M, can demonstrate its commitment to ethical

standards and sustainability while still making a profit, this reputation might be changed if other

businesses fall into line.
