Have you ever got stuck in a cable car? Well, I have. Last February, I went on a ski trip
to Switzerland. What a trip to remember!
The first morning, I got into a cable car and I was so excited. I wanted to go to the top
of mountain and ski down the slope. The cable car started its way up while I was looking
down. The mountain was so beautiful. Suddenly, there was a terrible noise. The car stopped. It
didn't move and it was very quiet all around
It started snowing and bean to get dark. I was alone for at least two hours. I thought,
"They've forgotten me." I felt so hopeless. Fortunately, the car started its way back down. It
went very fast.
"Sorry," a man said as I climbed out of the car. "We've never had this problem before.
Please try again tomorrow,"
"He's joking," I thought. "I've had enough of cable cars for a lifetime."

1. Hot oil treatments: Take any natural oil – olive, coconut, canola – and heat it up so that it
is warm, but not too hot. Massage is gently into your scalp. Put on a shower cap and leave it
on for an hour, then shampoo your hair.
2. Natural juices: You can rub your scalp with either garlic juice, onion juice or ginger juice.
Leave it on overnight and wash it thoroughly in the morning.
3. Get a head message: Massaging your scalp for a few minutes daily will help stimulate
circulation. Good circulation in the scalp keeps hair follicles active. Circulation may be
improved through massage by using a few drops of lavender or bay essential oil in an
almond or sesame oil base.
4. Antioxidants: Apply warm green tea (two bags brewed in one cup of water) on your scalp
and leave this mixture on for an hour and then rinse. Green tea contains antioxidants which
prevent hair loss and boost hair growth.
5. Practice meditation: Believe it or not, most of the times, the root cause for hair loss is
stress and tension. Meditation can help in reducing that and restore hormonal balance.

Sleep helps your brain work properly. While you're sleeping, your brain is preparing for the
next day. It's forming new pathways to help you learn and remember information.
Studies show that a good night's sleep improves learning. Whether you're learning math, how
to play the piano, how to perfect your golf swing, or how to drive a car, sleep helps enhance

sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood
pressure, diabetes, and stroke.
Besides that, sleep also helps maintain a healthy balance of the hormones that make you feel
hungry (ghrelin) or full (leptin). When you don't get enough sleep, your level of ghrelin goes
up and your level of leptin goes down. This makes you feel hungrier than when you're well-
rested.

Assalamu’alaikum Alia,
It was very interesting to read your letter about yourself and your hometown. I would really like
to be your pen friend.
I’m a sixteen-year-old school student from Johor Bahru in Malaysia. Actually I attend an
Islamic boarding school just outside the city but my family live in Kuala Lumpur. My eldest
sister is a medical doctor. She will get married soon. My younger brother is an elementary school
student in KL but he often writes to me via email.
My favorite subjects are social sciences. I like history very much; it helps me know more how
different countries existed in the past. At school we are supposed to use English at all times, even
when we are in the dormitory, so we have become quite fluent although sometimes we slip back
into Malay, which is our mother tongue.
As for hobbies, I’m really into songs and music. My favorite singer is Yusuf Islam whose
former name was Cat Steven. He’s so cool! Another singer I like is Maher Zain with his religious
songs. My favorite Malay singer is of course Siti Nurhaliza. I also like watching movies,
especially comedies. The actor I like best is Tom Cruise.
I’m really into books. I like reading novels and short stories, mostly by Malay authors who you
probably haven’t heard of. I like some writers in English, like JK Rowling and Indonesian
writers too, like Andrea Hirata and Ahmad Fuadi. My dream, when I’m older, is to be a writer of
science fiction books set in the distant future.
I’d really love to come to Indonesia some day. I heard that it has the largest number of Muslims
of any country. A book that I’ve just read mentions that
there are some magnificent places to visit, such as, Bali, Sulawesi,
Papua and Borneo! What about you, do you want to visit
my country?
Wassalam, Saidah

MEETING AN IDOL
Afgan has always been my favourite singer. I had always been thinking of how I would feel
when I met him. Then I was suddenly hit by lightning when I found out Afgan was coming to
town for a concert in a local auditorium. A day before the concert, there would be a meet-and-
greet event at a local radio station. Feeling excited, I packed all my Afgan’s CDs to get his
signature at the event.
On that bright and sunny Saturday morning, the radio station was full of Afganism (that’s how
Afgan’s fans are called). They sat on the chairs prepared inside the radio station’s lobby. Some
stood in rows in the front yard of the radio station. A spot inside a lobby was prepared with a
mini stage for Afgan’s singing performance and a table for Afgan to sign Afganism’s
memorabilia. Finally, after about 40 or 50 minutes wait, Afgan showed up from inside the radio
station. He smiled and waved to all Afganism who had been waiting excitedly saying, “Good
morning. How are you all?”. The crowd went crazy. The shouts sounded like a mix of “Fine,
thank you” and screams of Afgan’s name.
Then, he started the event by singing his hit single “Dia dia dia”. Afganisme went even
crazier; they sang along with him throughout the song. Of course, I did too. I couldn’t take my
eyes off this amazing singer who had released three albums. When he was finished with the
song, the host announced that it was time for autographing the memorabilia. I prepared my CDs
and began to stand in the line. When I arrived at the table, I was speechless. It was unreal just
seeing him that close. I thought it was really cool seeing him like that because he really just felt
like a normal person, which was awesome. He asked my name so that he could write it on the
CD to say “To Mia, Love Afgan”. He was also very friendly, so I didn’t feel too nervous when I
had a chance to take pictures with him. He was just an amazing person. And it was the best day
ever!

Once upon a time there was a glossy black and yellow striped garden snake. It was bored
with its existence, lying curled up stiff during the winter and dragged every which way during
the summer by annoying children and puttering adults.
One August evening as it lay in the dark, It said to itself,” I am beautiful glossy black and
yellow striped garden snake, but with a little effort on my part I could free myself and slither
over to nearby woods, where I could become a beautiful glossy black and yellow striped serpent,
king of the beast, and rule over my domain. I would be feared by my enemies and loved by my
friends and my progeny would endure forever.”
So each night it worked and worked at undoing itself from the garden faucet until the night
came when it was finally free, Very stealthily it crept out of the garden, slithering silently down
the street until it entered the woods, where it was immediately hit by a roller coaster.
