CASE STUDY OF PENLAND HEIGHTS HOTEL

1. What are the basic leadership issues in this case?

- The basic leadership issues of this case study is that the old members of the family are
the only who have the right to lead. They are still following the old traditions where the
older people are the one who will lead because as expected they have more
experienced and acknowledgeable. That’s why the aging employees are the one who
runs the business they don’t trust the young generation that they can do better than
them. Their daughter has a point and capabilities to lead and have more knowledge. All
they have to do is to give their kids a chance to lead and pretty sure that she could
manage it well also.

2. What leadership skills must Tom and Laura Lunsford either have or acquire to continue
managing this hotel successfully under the change social, cultural and economic
conditions of the times?

- Tom and Laura Lunsford should improve and continue managing their business by
adapting the new trends. they could still manage their business in accordance in how
they handle it well in their times which is the problem here because in today’s
generation people change the way they live socially, culturally and economic conditions
are very different from the generation. They should learn to accept and adapt the
change that is happening and make ways to grow their business. The people on the new
generation has big difference because our learnings more improve and now we are
more skillful.

3. Do you think Tom and Laura, who are intelligent, well meaning, experienced, and highly
motivated by somewhat old fashioned, are sufficiently adaptable fit in with the “new
breed” of employees? Can these old dogs learn new tricks? Or in all probability does the
future of hotel leadership lie with their daughter Granada who, even though
inexperienced, is more in tune with the times?
- I think that they can still manage their business well but if they adapt the change and
blend in the new trends, I also can say that they should let their daughter Granada to
handle their business to help them improving even though considerately that she is is
inexperienced , more in tune with the times of change . I believe that she can give more
ideas on how to be unique what can their business be more successful. Even a young
ones can lead and manage a business if she have enough capabilities and abilities.
