Instruction: Analyze and investigate the hotel housekeeping operation problem in the given
case below. Examine an alternative effective strategies/ solution and propose the
most effective recommendations using supporting evidence.

After graduating from Hospitality Management program, you have been hired by a lodging
company in Albay and sent to work the first year in a resort property in Legazpi City. After six
(6) months of training, you have been promoted to Executive Housekeeper position in one of
the company branch in Metro Manila. The property id near EDSA and offers different types of
facilities such as restaurant and bars. The hotel also has the following problems:

Absenteeism. In the work place, there are reports that some housekeepers are always
late resulting to overtime of other housekeepers. The problem is primarily due to
transportation problems – traffic and unreliable city transit system.

Turnover – the turn over rate of the housekeeping department is 150 percent annually.
According to exit interview of employees, the company does not give enough benefits and
therefore, they look for hotels who can provide proper and enough wages.

Guest Complaints – The manager of the hotel always receives complaints from guest that
their room are not well cleaned by the Guest Room Attendants (GRAs) This is supported by
the social media site of the hotel as it receives very low rating from previous guest about
customer service and the overall review of the hotel. Productivity, currently the room attendant
workload per day is 13. Workers in most four-star hotels in the area cleaning 17 rooms per
shift.

Questions:

1. What do you think are the factors that could result why Guest Room attendants GRAs
are not doing their job well?
2. As new executive housekeeper, how will you solve the problems encountered?

Draw together the main points you made in the body paragraph, without adding anything
