Clinical Case 1
RW, a 41 year-old married store manager was operated on for malignant cancer in her left
breast five years ago. Amenorrhea and easy fatiguability in the last 6 weeks prompted
consult.
Despite surgery and a full course of chemotherapy, tests revealed recurrence, Stage 4
breast cancer, with brain, liver, and lungs metastases. This consult also confirmed
pregnancy. RW and her husband agreed to continue with this pregnancy and postpone
chemotherapy until after their baby was born.
Three months later, RW was rushed to the emergency room for massive hemoptysis, and
was pronounced dead within 30 minutes of arrival.
