Definition and Importance
COURSE STANDARDS

CONTENT STANDARDS
The learners distinguish differences between types of
media and information-related literacies.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
The learners expound the importance of media-,
information-, and technological literacy in their everyday
lives.
Importance of Media Literacy

Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze,

evaluate, and create media.

Media literacy allows us to exercise critical

thinking when analyzing different forms of
media and wide range of issues. With this,
we can discern what information is factual,
truthful, and objective.
Importance of Media Literacy
Media literacy allows us to understand
the significant role of media in our
society and how largely it influences us
as users.

Media literacy enables us to become

competent in processing and assessing
the form of media we use. This literacy
enables us to think independently and
make our own opinion instead of
relying on what the media dictates.
Importance of Media Literacy
Media literacy makes us become
well-informed using the different
forms of mass media
simultaneously. It develops an
intellectual and artistic sense on
how we can create useful and
effective forms of media by
ourselves.
Importance of Information Literacy

Information literacy allows a person to recognize when information is

needed and how he/she will be able to access, locate, evaluate, and use it
effectively.

Information literacy allows us to distinguish which among the sources

of information are relevant.
Information literacy enables us to organize and classify the different
forms of media which can be used to secure relevant and substantial
information.
Importance of Information Literacy

Information literacy aids us in developing

effective research skills essential in
enriching our knowledge and enhancing our
comprehension.

Information literacy enables us to gather

essential information to expand our
knowledge.
Importance of Technology Literacy
Technology literacy is the ability to acquire relevant information and use modern-
day tools to get, manage, apply, evaluate, create, and communicate information.
Importance of Technology Literacy

Digital literacy helps us understand

the benefits and harm of digital
footprint that we either passively
leave or actively share about
themselves online, most notably
social media sites
Digital literacy allows us to adapt
what we produce for various contexts
and audiences using rich media such
as images, video and sound.
Importance of
Technology Literacy
With technological discoveries
and breakthroughs, digital
literacy allows people nowadays
to find cure for dreaded
incurable illnesses, like brain
cancer or as of late, Covid 19.
Importance of
Technology Literacy

Digital literacy allows us to

effectively and responsibly
engage with the digital world
such as blogs and discussion
forums, video and photo
sharing, social gaming and
other forms of social media.
