CASE ANALYSIS

Case 1: Complicated Labor and Delivery (50 points)

A nulliparous client was admitted to the birthing unit 9 hours ago.


Vital signs:
BP: 120/80 mmHg
RR: 21 cpm
PR: 96 bpm
Temp: 36.5 degrees Celsius

Other pertinent assessment:


She progressed from 3 cms and 0 station to 6 cms and +1 station, but has not made any
additional progress for almost 2 hours. FHR is in the normal baseline range with moderate variability.
There are no decelerations, contractions are presently every 3 minutes, 40 seconds duration, and of
strong intensity.

Tasks:

1. Following the vaginal examination, what other assessments will you make at this time? (10

2. During the vaginal examinations, you determine that the small triangular fontanel is toward the
