You may have encountered this lesson in your elementary years, however, what you will be learning now is a
new perspective of the lesson. Read carefully and answer the given questions found in this module.

MAIN IDEA
The main idea is the central, or most
important, idea in a paragraph or To find the main idea of any

Supporting Details
- Supporting details help you better understand the main idea. This is made up of sentences that provide
the author’s reasons, facts, examples, and/or other supporting details.
Conclusion Sentence
- It is the last sentence in the paragraph. It sums up the paragraph’s message.

Luca’s grandfather lives on a farm. His grandfather has a big


garden, with many animals. When Luca was still little, he was
afraid of the chickens. When he helped his grandfather feed the
chickens, the chickens chased him, crying “cluck. Cluck, cluck!”
but his grandfather showed him how to shoo the chickens away
with his hand, saying “shoo chickens, shooo chickens!” Luca still
doesn’t like the chickens much, but he isn’t afraid of them now.

A thought provoking question is a type of question that causes you to think seriously about something. It
contains interesting ideas that can make you think a lot. These are questions that start with WHY or HOW.

OPEN FORUM VS. PANEL DISCUSSION


OPEN FORUM
Public or open forums generally refer to a situation in which people can talk about a problem or
matter concerning public interest. It is where the public can exercise their right to speech. Public
forums are also associated with places that are open to the public.

PANEL DISCUSSION
On the other hand, a panel discussion involves a group of experts and thought leaders to discuss a
topic or brainstorm solutions to public concern in front of an audience. Panel discussions usually
happens in academic conference rooms, convention hall, or even seen in television segments.
